The waves splashed against the side of the ship, creating a soothing melody. Sasha loved the sea. She loved the way it showed so many moods, which could change at any time. It was her best friend, and yet her worst enemy. It was both her boon, and her greatest weapon. It was home.
"Morning Sasha." It was Dave. Dave was the ship's first mate.He was also a master thief by nature. He preferred rapiers and a flintlock over the crew's customary scimitars and bayonet, and had no qualms about using them to end another person's life.
"You'll be calling me captain, unless you no longer value your lungs," she growled, drawing her scimitar and leveling it at his throat, only to find his sword at hers.
"You seem to be taking your new position seriously," he laughed, sheathing his sword.
"But you don't,"she chuckled, doing the same."Anyway, Gear wants to see you."
Dave gave her a surprised look. "Gear does? Isn't he the mechanic?"
"That he is. Said he needs your help."
"With what?"
Sasha shrugged. I don't know. Just get in there and don't be a nuisance for once.
When Dave reached the door by the boiler, he stopped. What could Gear possibly need him for? It's not like he could help with any of Gear's inventions. He hardly ever understood even half of what that tinkerer said. Taking a deep breath, he knocked.
Immediately, the door opened. "About time. Come on I need your help," he said impatiently, dragging Dave in. Gear was short and scrawny, and his arms were covered in scars from previous inventions gone wrong.
"I need a bullet."
"What? Why?"
"Just trust me."
When he gave Gear the bullet, Gear strode over to a giant gold and bronze colored machine and set it into a small slot where it fit perfectly. Immediately, multicolored light shot out of the whole thing, blinding Dave.
"This,"proclaimed Gear grandly, "This will be my best invention yet!"
