PART 1 -- Chapter 12 -- Down In The Forest

Start from the beginning

"What the hell? Unbelievable," I groaned angrily "Stupid police."

So they're busy running their mouths about my stupid story just because- Actually I don't care. They can do as they please as long as the stupid son of a bitch is caught.

"Ready to head off?" Jenna appeared in front of the TV, Tyler by her side.

I was slightly startled but I tried to hide it "Yes," I smiled, turning off the TV and getting up

We all got into the car and drove to Josh's house. I sat in the back, keeping to myself. The car pulled up to the curb of the Dun household.

"I'll be like two minutes," I was already opening the door before Jenna or Tyler could reply

I skipped up the path and hopped up the steps. I pressed the doorbell firmly, waiting for a response. I was about to press it again when Abigail appeared at the door.

"Hey," She grinned and pulled me in for a hug

"Hi. I was wondering if Josh was home?"

"I'm not sure. Come in," She stepped to the side of the door frame to let me in.

"Xena," Mrs Dun approached us and hugged me

"Hi Mrs Dun," I replied, smiling warmly

"Laura, please." She beamed "What can I do for you?"

"I was wondering if Josh was home?"

"No, not at the moment, I thought he was with you, Jenna and Tyler?" She frowned

"He left my house last night, he said he was going back home." I furrowed my brows

"Oh that's odd. Maybe he went somewhere. Have you tried his cell? He's practically glued to that thing," She chuckled

"No," I pulled out my phone and dialled Josh's number "It's ringing,"

As we awaited a response, the only voice I heard was his voicemail message. My heart dropped down to my stomach. "It went to voicemail," I squeaked

"Oh?" Abigail stared at me, confused

"I'll try again." I redialled his number. Distantly, I heard ringing and noticed the noise was coming from upstairs.

"Is that his phone upstairs?" Abigail took off up the stairs and returned with his phone.

"Oh." My eyes fixated on the phone

"Where could he be?" Laura asked, a hint of worry coating her voice

"I don't know," I said as a shiver made its way through my spine

"He could be on his own to just have some him time," Abigail shrugged

"Wouldn't he tell one of you?" I asked

"He would." Laura exhaled and walked upstairs

"We'll wait until he comes home, you go enjoy your day. I'll deal with mom. Here's my number if you get anything from him," Abigail gestured for my phone and punched her number in. She sighed, hugged me and handed my phone back. We walked to the door and she waved me off.

I anxiously strolled back to the car and strapped the seatbelt across me silently. It wasn't until an obvious blanket of awkward silence fell over us that someone spoke up.

"Where's Josh?" Both Tyler and Jenna asked in unison

"He's, uh, not home. We don't know where he is," I practically choked out the last part of the sentence. I was confused as to why he'd take off, if he even did. Lately I've really connected with him and just, I don't know, what if he did something stupid? My crippling doubt consumed me until Tyler spoke up, yanking me from my thoughts.
