The wind flew against my back, causing my long hair to cover my face as I tried to make my way to the small coffee shop two blocks down from my apartment. I forced my way into the small building, the smell of coffee and pastries filled the air. That was one of the few different things in this world, the smells. Everything is just shades of grey, not metaphorically, everything is colorless. You walk down the street and there's nothing. What color are trees? What about this building I'm in? Hell, what color is the coffee I drink every morning. After a few minutes in line, I placed my order; a large pumpkin spice latte with whipped cream and cinnamon on top. I moved over to the side while I waited for my coffee.

"Lakeland."

I walked over to the counter and grabbed the warm, grey cup. I pushed past the morning crowd in the cramped coffee shop and met once again with the freezing December air. I reached into my purse and pulled out my phone and scrolled though Instagram while I walked through the heavily crowded sidewalk. I constantly kept bumping into people so I decided to put my phone away. I went to take a sip of my boring, colorless coffee when I bumped into another person. But this time was different, his shoulder slammed into mine and for a split second the warm cup in my hand was no longer grey. It became this beautiful, vibrant color, causing me to almost drop it on the ground. I turned around to see a guy staring at me, with his mouth wide open.

"Y-you." he stuttered, "It's you."

"What do you mean?"

"Where are you going?"

"What- why?"

"Can you come with me?"

I knew you're not supposed to go places with people you just met but something about him was just-

He was perfect. Everything about him. His smile made me melt and he smelt amazing. He was so handsome, I couldn't say no.

"I mean I guess so."

He smiled and grabbed my hand, "Perfect."

I went to go take a sip of my coffee and once again the cup was no longer grey. It was bright and it stung my eyes a little. I gasped and he looked down at me and smiled. I looked into his eyes and they weren't grey either. I looked around and everything was flashing to different colors. I didn't want to say anything because I wasn't sure if he could see it too. He held my hand tighter and smiled once more as I looked around at everything with my mouth hanging wide open.

"Where are you taking me?"

He led me around the corner.

"My apartment if you don't mind."

"W- what why?"

"Just to talk."

We walked for a few more minutes and he ended up leading me to my apartment building.

"You live here too?"

He looked a little surprised. "You live here?"

"Yeah I do."

He held the door open and I walked in with him following behind.

"Well we can go to your apartment if you want, you're probably a little skeptical about going to some random strangers house."

I looked back at him, "That would be great."

"Alright."

I took another sip of my coffee and led him to my apartment. I unlocked my door and we walked to the living room.

"Do you want anything to drink?"

"No thanks, I'm good."

"Alright."
