"Portland, Maine."read the sign that Emma Heartstrong looked at when her parents drove into her new town. Though she wasn't against the idea of moving into a different town, she wasn't necessarily elated about the idea either. She went along with her parents idea to move her out of New York and into a small town to avoid the problems they ¨left" back in New York. So her father was transferred to the company in Portland, Maine, and they started their new lives.
The family finally arrived to their house, an hour than planned, due her parents, aka her dad, to stop at ¨Duckfat¨ for lunch. When they pulled into the driveway, Emma was astonished. The house they bought was beautiful and big. It was a Two-story cobblestone house, with finished bathrooms, kitchen, and basement. The upper level held the bedrooms and Emma's bedroom and her parents had a bathroom. Besides the bedrooms bathrooms, there was a hall bathroom on each level. When Emma went inside the house, she was astonished. If she was ecstatic about moving now, it would be impossible for her to enjoy her "new life." The backyard prairie windows showed her a big backyard and a pool.
"Hey Mom... remember when the doctor mentioned me needing a support animal and you agreed a dog might be a good idea."
"Yeah?" her mother said as she looked out the window.
"It's big enough for a puppy or two." Emma smiled happily.
"We'll see sweaty."
"Mom." she said aggravated. "The doctor suggested when I got "Out" that it would be a good idea to get me a support dog. Not move to a whole other state."
"C'mon Emma." her mother said worriedly. "I don't think that you're..."
"That i'm what? Stable?"
"Responsible. Look Emmy. You've only been out a few weeks. I want you to settle a bit."
"Yeah well. It happened. I'm out. Don't you think I need a small dog to whose gonna love me unconditionally and help me through whatever I'll be dealing with for the rest of my life."
"Make a friend, and then you can get a dog if you still think you need one." her mother said sternly. Emma groaned and walked out to help the movers being boxes in.
Later that day, after the movers left, and the family finished moving in, Emma grabbed her phone and headphones and walked out the front door to sit on the steps. Breathing out the cool autumn air, she turned on the "Yiruma First Love" album. Behind her came a boy, around her age, and he tapped on her shoulder. Emma jumped a little bit and looked over her shoulder, taking out one earbud, and looking up at the strange boy.
"Can I help you?" she asked blandly.
"I just came to greet the new neighbors with my dad." the boy said smiling.
"Oh."
"So... Hi. I'm Josh."
"Emma."
