The official music video is above, I suggest only watching it after reading this if you haven't already. It will make it more 'magical.' (Meaning the video is probably better than my writing.) This one was hard to write, considering it's in reverse, so you can see what perspective it is in as you read. It is also pretty short. Here you go.
Little Do You Know
Annie's
Annie sat on her bed, as she let a tear roll down her cheek and land on the floor. Memories flooded over her, she remembered, just a while ago, she had been sitting on the beach, watching the waves lap at the sand, her head on Hayden's shoulder.
Her mind rushed back to the beach, replaying everything that had happened.
'Hayden,' she said, taking her head off his shoulder.
'Yeah?' he asked softly.
'I love being here with you,' she said.
He just jumped off the rock and looked out to the sea. She jumped off behind him and intertwined her fingers with his.
'Annie ...' he sighed.
His tone of voice made her nervous. She pulled her hand away and looked back at him. He shook his head slowly and her heart jumped. She pulled away from his presence and ran along the sand, towards the café which was deserted.
She reached down and pulled her white jean jacket off the bench she had laid it on, without breaking step. She ran all the way to her apartment. Before she entered her phone vibrated in her pocket. She pulled it out, hoping it was him, but hoping it wasn't at the same time.
It was. The text said, 'sorry.' She couldn't believe it. Was that all he could manage? She put her phone away and pulled open the door before she stepped inside. She found herself staring into the mirror, her thoughts racing. She couldn't believe it. Was that what he had really been saying? It could only be that.
Suddenly her eyes caught sight of the necklace hanging around her neck. It was the one Hayden had given her, on the end of the chain hung a heart. She put her fingers around the clasp and undid it. Then she pressed her foot onto the lever of the bin and dropped the necklace inside.
As thoughts played back in her mind, another tear dropped onto the floor. She played everything in reverse. Hoping that she could go back to that moment when she had her head laid on Hayden's shoulder. While his head rested on hers.
Little did she know, Hayden wished he could go back in time too.
Hayden's
Annie lifted her head from his shoulder and said. 'Hayden.'
'Yeah?' he answered quietly.
'I love being here with you.'
His heart jumped, with happiness and sadness. It wasn't that easy.
He jumped off the rock and he heard her follow. He felt her fingers intertwine with his and he loved the feeling. But he couldn't.
'Annie...' he sighed.
She ripped away abruptly and she turned to face him. All he could do was shake his head. In her eyes, he saw confusion and unhappiness. He watched her turn and run down the beach. Why hadn't he said anything?!
As soon as she had disappeared from sight he picked up a small rock and threw it into the ocean. It splashed into a wave and disappeared from view.
He ran back up the beach and climbed onto the jetty. He picked up his skateboard and then dropped it onto its wheels. He hopped onto it and skated slowly down the jetty, stopping at a bench and sitting down. He was lost, he didn't know what to do.
He pulled out his phone and went into iMessage. Then he opened the text box for Annie. All he could type was: sorry.
There was no reply. All he could do was replay the day in his head. Ending with the moment on the beach.
Little did he know Annie was also replaying the day in her head. They both wished it hadn't ended.
