On each end of the road stood a boy and a girl. Both of them were staring intently at each other. How could they not when they shared a past?

Recognition, pain, regret, sorrow, and another thousand emotions were held in their eyes. Unwillingly, he swept his head towards another side, because for him, the weight was too heavy.

She felt her heart breaking into pieces as he swerved his head around. She didn't understand what she did wrong, neither did she understand him.

Broken from regret, she walked to him. One step at once, slowly, and steadily she put one foot in front of the other. All she wanted to do was tell him how much she missed him, how much she needed him, and how much she was sorry.

Unfortunately, he sprinted away.

On the top of the hill was a boy. He was looking at the scenery in front of him. There were mountains, fields, rivers. Then something caught his attention. A girl wearing a yellow polka-dots dress with white basic whom he knew was laying on her back and closing her eyes. She looked so peaceful.

Memories about her came back to haunt him. She was his only true friend that stayed by his side when he needed her, she was his light in the dark, she was his stars on his sky, but somehow she was also he's darkest memory, his worst nightmare, and his deepest sea.

And the clock seemed to stop right then. Right when she turned her head towards him and locked their eyes together. His blue irises dilate for a second but he places his mask over it.

On the foothills, a girl was spreading her arms open. She was feeling the sun on her skin, the mildew on her hands, the breeze on her hair. She was feeling freedom. She felt alone, but not lonely. She laid her back on the grass and closed her eyes. This way, she could forget everything. Forget how her mother prefered her brother, forget how his father treated her badly, forget how her grades were not satisfying, forget about him.

She opened her eyes when she felt the sunlight being blocked by something. Someone, most likely. She wanted to forget him, but why was she looking at him? She was supposed to be alone here, so what was he doing here? Was he even real?

She locked gazes with him and felt his blue irises dilate. But that he started to fake everything and put his facade back on. Why would he do that? He used to let her know everything. Then what changed? He was so opaque to her, she could not even imagine a day when she could understand him wholly.

She mentally laughed at herself. You changed. You were to blame. You let him drown. You fix him and broke him again. She chastised to herself.

Eyes still locked, he turned around and walked away. 'Too hard' was not even close to describe what he wanted to say. With a heavy heart, he took a step back, and another, and another, until he lost vision of her.

Her eyes stayed on the spot where he had stood. She was supposed to be relief now that she was alone and she could forget about him. But she wasn't relieved. She was too consumed with guilt, regret, and pain.

She wanted to run up the hill right now and grab his wrist, make him stay. But she's scared that he would then hate her more. At least that was what she thought. Did he hate her? Nobody knew.

She was standing by the road right beside the abyss. Her eyes widened as she saw two cars crashing. It happenned in a milisecond. The maroon coloured car that looked more like a mini-truck swerved to the left just in time when the black minivan hit the back of it. On the impact, the maroon car hit the hills, whilst the black car fell into the water. She tried to move, but her feet were stuck like glue on the soil underneath her. She felt fear, apprehension, and costernation at the same time. Frozen, she watched as the black car drown into the water.

He was swimming in the oceans. He was underwater, but somehow he was able to breath steadily, like he belonged in the waves where things crashed and drown. Because he was just like those things, except maybe... worse.

There was a black minivan drowning. Slowly, it hit the sea bed. And it scattered into debrises. As he was floating in the water, a thought came to his mind.

He was just like the car. He moved ahead with such speed but he didn't see what was ahead of him. All he saw was the apparent moves of the girl. All he saw was her. And now he was drowning in the deep sea of emptiness, and she was the source of it.

He swam up until he reached the surface of the water. The sky was full of stars but that was not the only thing he saw. He saw her.

Her eyes were fixated on a silhouette floating on the surface of the water. Was he the victim of the accident? Nobody knew.

But then she got a better look of the man. Realization struck when she saw that the man was a friend- no, he was something more than that. She was so tempted to jump into the water, swim to him, and tell him everything, like how they used to be.

But when he turned his head towards where she was standing, he looked straight passed her. Like there were nobody standing there. His eyes were as cold as ice, why?

Then he swam away, to another part of the water.

How long will it take to make him drop his facade, to make him realize that she was sorry, to make him understand that she didn't meant to hurt him?

Until he forgives her.

He woke up abruptly, and he found himself sitting on a bench. But he felt another presence around him. He heard a sound of someone's breath hitching. He turned around. Imagine his surprise when he saw that she was here, sitting right beside him on the bench.

Her dulcet-tones snapped him out of his trance.

"What does it take to make you forgive me?"

"I won't."

10 years later

She openned an envelope and took the piece of paper out. She let out a hearty laugh as she recognized the writing that said: I forgive you.
