Hail Hydra

All I could remember was, "I'm with you 'til the end of the line." It felt as if it had been years. I opened my eyes and saw a bright light, so I immediately closed them again, waiting for my eyes to adjust. When I was no longer blind, I looked around. Where was I? I looked at my arm. It felt as if it was asleep. I saw a metal arm with a red star on it. What happened to my arm? I looked around more, but something was hanging in my face. Hair. How did my hair get so long? I reached up to wipe it away from my face, but my arm wouldn't move. It was chained down. So were my legs. I attempted to move my metal arm, but it gave me a shocking pain. What's going on? Then I heard something. Someone. The footsteps neared my bed thingy, whatever it was. Suddenly there was a face above me. It was a man. He said, "Hail Hydra."

(Nikki's POV)

The last thing I could remember was being told my father died in a mission with Captain America. Then pain and darkness. I woke up in a room, chained to a bed. A woman was standing over me. When she saw I opened my eyes, she smiled and said, "Hello, darling," said a smooth, female, British-accented voice.

"What?" Woah, my voice sounded weird. How long have I been asleep?

"Hello, darling," the woman repeated.

"How long have I been asleep?" I asked, a little scared to know the answer.

"About sixty years," she replied simply.

"What? That's not possible."

"Well, it's true. Do you know who you are?"

"I'm Nikki Barnes. Where am I?"

"Please stop asking questions, honey. I need you to cooperate with me. We need to run a few tests and go from there."

"What kind of tests? What's wrong with me?" I wondered.

"Honey, you just slept for seventy years. You surely don't expect us not to make sure everything in you is working properly." Right. That was what was wrong with me. "The same tests were run for Captain Rogers."

"Captain Rogers? He's... alive?"

"Alive and well. You missed quite a bit of action while sleeping."

"None of this makes sense," I responded, befuddled. How could I have been asleep for sixty years? How could Cap be alive?

"Let's just run those tests." The lady put me in this capsule type thing. Wires were hooked up to me, and the lid was closed. "Are you ready?" I heard her say.

"I guess?" I heard her turn something. Excruciating pain shot through me. I screamed. Loud. The pain continued for a long time. I thought I was going to die. The pain seemed to run through my whole body one hundred times. Finally the pain stopped and I took a deep breath. What kind of test was that? It seemed more like an attempted murder than a test.

"And you're done!" the woman exclaimed. Wow. She was cheery. I still don't think she's human...

"What was that?" I asked with a rough voice, dry from screaming.

"We have injected you with a serum to make you physically advanced."

"The Super Soldier Serum," I realized.

"Yes," the woman replied.

"So I can do anything Cap can do?" I wondered aloud. That would be cool.

"I'm sorry?" she asked, confused. Right. She didn't know Steve as Cap.

"Cap. Captain Rogers. It's what I call him," I explained with a shrug. Wow, I felt so strong! I didn't even look weird. I didn't have the bulging muscles, but when you looked at me, you knew I was strong.
