That was the sound my paws make as they collided with the earth, my sences were heightenend and I felt free. Free to run, Free to be a wolf
I ran until it hurt to do so. I panted heavily and let the rest of my siblings overtake, I was the runt of my litter, smaller, weaker. I never ran as fast or as far as them, and everytime we raced I would loose.
There were five of us in my litter, My brother Adrian was the oldest, he was 15 minuets older than me and was an ordanary older sibling, he was harsh on me because he wanted the best for me, he was protective, but we didnt realy spend much time together.
Next was my sister Anita, she was 14 minuets older then me, she got along great with Adrian but the rest of us, not so much.
Brad was next with 10 minuets between him and I and we kinda just co-existed.
Leo was next, but he was different to our siblings. As there was only three minuets between us we were close, he was my best friend and my brother, i knew all his secrets and he knew all mine.
I stopped and panted as Anita overtook calling me a squirt in the process, just behind her was Brad and he completely ignored me, and our sisters comment.
Adrian was well in the lead, he had overtaken me within the first 5 seconds of the race, even though I had been given a thirty second headstart, he always won and it was extreamely infuriating.
This was the way the race always went, it was as if our age determined our speed and stamina. Which meant, as always, that I would come last!
Leo came from behind and slowed to a stop next to me. He winned and I rolled my eyes at his sandy coloured wolf, the message was clear: I couldnt go on any further!
He nudged my muzzle and we started walking together to the finish line, when it was in view i saw my father he looked disappointed.
Leo looked over to me and I could hear his voice vibrate through my mind from the mind link "ready to face him?" i sighed and looked at my brother "no" i answered truthfully. "I got your back" he reassured me and I could tell he was smiling. He stopped to let me pass the finish line first, it was kinda like a tradition for us but my father knew all to well that Leo would have beaten me.
"Leo, if you always go easy on her, she will never learn, she has to keep up with the pack herself" my Father warned my brother.
Leo bowed his head to show submission to my father, he was the most dominent as in most families. Father then turned to me, he sighed and walked away.
Adrian made his way over to me and though the mind link I heard his gruff voice "If you want to survive out there on your own, you need to take your traning seriously, otherwise, you stand no chance."
he growled the last part and I bowed my head to him, I was the least dominent in my family and he was the second most, so it was easy for him to gain my submission.
He huffed and turned away from me walking in the opposite direction. His jet black fur shone as the morning sun.
Every morning we would wake up before sunrise and train, a mixture of push ups, races and lectures which had me extreamely exhausted every morning before during and after school.
My siblings ran to our house where mom was waiting in our front garden, leo and I walked as I was still puffed out. My siblings were all shifting back after Mom had given them their clothes, I didn't understand how they could do it so publicaly and I knew Leo shared my views, so once our mother had passed us our clothing we took of to the woods to shift behind a tree.
