Basically, my friend asked me to take a moment we shared one night when a river was overflowing and flooding a bridge. He asked for one Romantic and one Fantasy. I happily obliged because I've been trying to teach myself empathy. I had a rough growing up and it gets hard for me to feel sympathy sometimes, even when I know I should. So anyway, I did a pair of sonnets because I was in the mood for something different.
Fantasized:
Glowing embers of the night sky look down
At two tall and wingless fairies walking
They are not royalty. He wears no crown
But seem wealthy in the ways of talking
Across glowing sticks they made this short trek
They wanted nothing more than some time spent
To look at a bridge but found a wet wreck
They look around and wonder where it went
Maybe it was stolen into the night
Because the wood elves declared it a blight.
Romanticized:
Stars glance down from the sky at false lovers
On an adventure to a flooded bridge
Neither bothered invite any others
Fingers interlaced, they lean on the ridge
A camera flashes. A flashlight swings
Together, they run away, hand in hand.
Behind them, dust and rock and water flings
Across glowing sticks neither understand.
Into the night he claims he must depart
Leaving behind a slowly breaking heart

Poems
PuisiJust poems I write when I'm feeling something out of ordinary. Or when people ask me to write poems for them.
