Before I start, I want you to know that the story you've heard from the dolan's is true. They were bullied in high school. It wasn't a pretty sight. I wouldn't say I was friends with them, not because I hated them, in fact you will soon find out it was just the opposite. I didn't really talk to anyone, and two years later, i still don't. I don't like the people at my school. They're all so rude and ignorant, I mean that in the nicest way possible of course. I don't have really any friends, but I prefer it that way. Enough about me, you're here for the dolan story, well my side of the dolan story I would assume. This story takes me back to about two years ago just before they left the school and did online school. Let's begin, the year was 2015...
2015
"Lydia!" My thoughts were interrupted by our english teacher, Ms. Garcia.
"umm yes?" I replied just loud enough for her to hear
"Since you seem to be paying lots of attention, i'm assuming you've read the book. Would you mind telling us what it's about?" she said with just a bit of attitude. She was referring to our book of the month, Romeo and Juliet.
"um..." I sat up in my chair, I could feel the entire class staring at me, which of course made me slightly nervous. I looked around at the classroom of eyes as I tried to think of a response. I did read the book, I just didn't act so well under pressure.
"I can help her Ms. G" a boy with his hand raised yelled from the back of the class, Ethan Dolan. It amazed me that even though he clearly not a class favorite by the teachers or students, he seemed to not let it really affect him.
"Alright, Mr. Dolan, tell us what you got." said Ms. G directing her attention to ethan
"well romeo, he decides to go to this party, or ball, but they have to sneak in so he drags his friends into it of course, because he had his eyes set on this one girl, Rosaline. She had broken his heart and he demanded to win her over. But then he met some other girl, Juliet and the two clicked instantly, except after they realized their family's fued" He explained, this came as a surprise to Ms. G and quite frankly all of us. You see ethan wasn't exactly a quiet person so speaking to the class was easy, but he wasn't always giving the right answers.
"Very good Mr. Dolan!" the teacher chirped and he gave her a big smile. The bell rang before the Romeo & Juliet interrogation could continue, which I was thankful for. "Make sure to keep reading, then when we have finished, we can start the partner project, have a great weekend everyone! See ya on Monday!" I was starting to think that nobody actually listened to Ms. G because the second the bell rang, about half the class was gone. I was one of the last one's to leave the class. "Ms. Rose, I know you know the answers to my questions, I would appreciate more participation." Ms. G said to me before I walked out. I replied with a soft smile, though internally I felt almost angry. Do teachers not realize that participation is optional for a reason? It should be decision whether I want to participate or not. My thoughts were interrupted, once again, this time it was a hand on my shoulder. I turned around to be face to face with a familiar face.
"So are we just gonna sit here and pretend like your boy crush since like middle school didn't just save you from humiliation?!" This was my best friend since 5th grade, her name was Alyssa, and she was probably the only person I ever talked to.
"can you keep it down, someone is gonna hear you, you crazy" I said as I continued to walk down the hallway.
"Maybe that's not a bad thing Lydia, maybe it's time you actually tell him, you know be the Juliet to his Romeo" she said following right next to me. Sadly we both walked home together, so I knew I would have to hear this the whole way home.
"Like I said, you're absolutely crazy. For one, he is the captain of the football team, and two he is practically internet famous. Why on earth would I even speak to him. Trust me, this is one of those things left unsaid." I replied, I knew that even if I did want to tell him, I would never be able to bring myself to it, and she knew that too.
"Maybe because he's walking in this direction! come on! now is your chance!" she whisper yelled before practically pushing me into him.
"I am so sorry oh my gosh, are you okay?" He asked, his face was full of concern
"Me? oh umm yeah i'm fine" I replied trying to avoid eye contact, when suddenly i had a wave of courage rush over me "hey by the way, thanks for saving my ass in english, she really likes to pick on me" I said forcing a very fake but casual laugh, he smiled and returned my very fake laugh
"It was no problem, Lydia, trust me, I know a thing or two about what it's like to get picked on" He said with a smile, almost as if making it a joke, but to me it was anything but funny, in fact, it kind of broke my heart to see on a daily basis. Him and his brother Grayson seemed to be one giant target to the entire school. Nonetheless, I returned the laugh. "I gotta go, see ya around!" He said before walking away, I just waved and smiled, figuring, if I tried to act any more nonchalant, I would just embarrass myself. Alyssa, who had been watching from a distance the whole time ran over to me and nudged my shoulder
"not bad Lydia Rose, not bad at all."
