I'm running. Running away from my problems. Being freed to do whatever I want in this tiny corner of the world by running . Letting the wind blow my silky white hair behind me. Allowing my feet to run on the soft grass and sand. Able to break chains from past mistakes and pain. Sadly, I can't do that. Before I can escape this world, I slip into inky darkness. I try to hold on to my dream, but fail. Falling into the darkness, I regain myself. Shooting up in my bed, I let out a disappointed sigh. As my memories from the dream start to slip away, I look around my room. It's the same room I grew up in, but, I couldn't help but notice that it felt different. A cold night breeze slips last my curtains, sending a shiver down my spine. Feeling the need to sleep slip away, I get up and walk to my window. Pulling the curtains behind me, I rest there. It's the same night sky I grew up with, but tonight, it felt like the first time I ever saw it. Stars sprinkled out on the dark blue sky like someone poked holes in the night sky. My dark blue eyes scanned the sky, hoping to find something new. 'Why would there be something new? It's the same sky that's been here for thousands of years!' As my mind wonders off, a soft knock echoes through my room. I get up, not knowing who's there. As I reach the wooden door, there's another knock. I push the door open to see Nathaniel standing there with his stuffed rabbit.
"I'm sorry, did I wake you?" His voice and eyes are laced with concern and guilt. I couldn't help but let out a soft sigh. He was always concerned about messing up. 'He's only five. He shouldn't have to worry about messing up,' I thought to myself.I
"No. I've been up for a bit. Did you have another nightmare?" I softly asked him. His worried face relaxed and he muttered a quiet yes. I step out of the way to let him in. "What was it about this time?" Keeping our voices low so we don't wake up anyone else, Nathaniel tells me about mom and our older sister, Amber, betraying us and abandoning us. I sigh and pull him into a big as he softly sobbed. "Shhh, it's ok. They wouldn't do that. They love us too much." Patting his back, trying to calm him down, I whispered comforting words to him. After a bit, he stops crying.
"Can we go make hot chocolate please?" He asked, wiping the tears off his face. I smiled a bit, getting up and grabbing his hand in mine. He stood up when I did, grabbing his stuffed bunny that he put down a while back. We walked out of my room into a corridor. "Did you have a nightmare too?" He enquired softly, not wanting to wake the others. I shake my head, trying to remember the dream that faded from my mind.
