The Dragon's Companion [V. 1]

Prologue

They'd succeeded in their mission.

Raiding the nesting grounds of the massive winged lizards called Dragons and smuggling out one lone egg for the Alchemist, having lost three comrades in the process.

Had King Richard III of Cavalon heard of it they'd have been put to death.... or worse... forced to fight in his Arena, purely for his entertainment.

It took three long weeks to return to the Alchemist's house. Tired and weary, they found  the alchemist waiting for them.

"Did you get me one?" He asked, stretching his hands out eagerly.

"....Yes." Came the reply, as the package was ripped from the leader's hands and the bag thrown to the side as the Alchemist held his prize.

"If you don't mind me asking, where are you going to keep it when it grows? Your house-"

"NEVER MIND YOU WHERE I WILL BE KEEPING IT!" The Alchemist screamed, tossing their payment their way before retreating into his house and slamming the door.

He stored it down stairs, under heat lamps. Days turned into weeks waiting for it to hatch and seemed to be taking forever. He was getting impatient, and was starting to think he'd been tricked, given a false egg..

Yet another few weeks passed, turning into a month, before one day coming down to the dark basement to find it had hatched, and was staring at him with huge red eyes.

"FINALLY! Glad you decided to finally join the living, you worthless reptile!" He yelled, yanking it, squeaking in fear, from the shell, and immediately chaining it up. 

"This is your home now, and you're name is Aldacruin."

My name is Aldacruin.
