Prologue

The woman moved through the trees silently, her black cloak swishing behind her. Her bright eyes swept across the forest, her right hand clutched her wand. The swaddled bundle she held in her left hand slept through it all, making no noise.

The trees around her began to thin, blending into rock. The woman began to climb the mountain with no hesitation at all, crouching down to blend in with the rocks. She stepped into a cave, her nose wrinkling as it met a damp smell of moss and mold. Her eyes pierced the darkness, like stars looking through a blanket of night. 

The woman stepped forward, farther into the cave, pulling her hood off her head. The distant sunlight shone on the woman's face, revealing harsh, young features. Her light blue eyes shone with a distant venom; her mouth appeared to be sneering; her white hair was cut short and spiked up, almost in a way of rebellion. A sharp line across her left cheek shone white, seemingly

The stranger set her bundle down carefully onto a flat rock, using her wand to produce a basket to lay the bundle in. She looked down at the sleeping infant for a moment, her eyes seeming to soften for a moment, then hardening again just as quickly. 

The woman turned towards the mouth of the cave, her back to the basket, and pulled her hood back over her head. She Apparated away, the last thing someone watching would see was her lightning eyes piercing themselves into memory forever.
