It was a bright and hot day in Charleston, South Carolina. Three teenage girls, Avery, Reagan, and Blake, are walking along the beach during June.
Avery's POV
I looked around the beach and took in my surroundings. I was another beautiful day in Charleston and what better way to spend it than with your best friends at the beach? I looked over at Reagan, the oldest out of all three of us at 20; she had short red hair and bright blue eyes. Blake was the next oldest at 17; with her long red hair and hazel eyes it was no wonder she has so many boy's attention. That leaves me, Avery. I'm 16, turning 17 on June 24th, I have dark brown hair and brown eyes. Blake and I are juniors at Charleston High, and Blake is the captain of the volleyball team while I am the captain of the cheer squad.
"Guys, in three weeks The X Factor is coming to Charleston. Are we auditioning?" Rea asked as we continued to walk down the beach, sandals in hand. "I think we should, why not try?" I said, looking down and picking at the frayed ends on my shorts. "I think we should, I mean we already sent in our applications and all that, so why not?" Blake said, a smile spreading across her face. "I agree, and plus, Ash and the boys are coming tomorrow to visit, they can help us." Rea added, a giddy smile on her face as she thought of Ashton, 1/4 of the band, 5 Seconds of Summer. "That would be amazing!" I said, as we climbed the dunes and into my old truck.
"Are you excited to see Ash? How long has it been anyway?" I asked while driving through town and to my house. "It's been about three months since I've seen him." Rea said sadly, looking down at her lap. We met the boys known as 5SOS when we went on vacation to Sydney, Australia; our beach house we rented just happened to be right next door to Ashton's house, and we've been inseparable ever since.
"They'll get in around midnight tonight, and then Cal said they were going to treat us to breakfast!" Blake said excitedly. I giggled at the thought of being able to spend some time with these boys who are like my brothers, well, all except one.
"Ashton said that Luke won't shut up about how excited he is to see you, Avery." Rea said, nudging my shoulder making my face get noticeably hotter. "Really?" I asked, while I pulled up to my gate, punching in the code and waiting for the gate to open wide enough so that I could drive through it. Once it opened I drove up the long tree-lined drive to my house, more like a southern-style mansion. I cut the engine and climbed out of the truck and up the steps to my front door. Walking into the foyer of my home, my eyes were drawn to the family portraits scattered along the walls, as well as performance shots of us girls on stage. Climbing the stairs to the second floor we passed my parent's room and my sister's room, as well as a guest bedroom and bathroom, and climbing the spiral staircase that lead to the third floor, which I got to design myself. It had a game room and movie room as well as my room with an ensuite bathroom and a giant walk-in closet like out of the movies. My room was painted a neon coral color with white accents and furnisher. My favorite room out of the whole floor though was our studio/ rehearsal room, equipped with a full sound booth and mixing boards, a stage with mics and everything we could possibly need or want for a performance of any type.
"I can't believe that this summer could start a new world for us." I heard Blake say as we headed to our studio. "I know, it's completely crazy, but for right now we need to pick a song, and rehearse, we only have three weeks you know! Let's get to work!" Rea demanded, going over to the Mac and scrolling through the music library, looking for the perfect audition song.
