"Look at that weeb!"

"Attack on Titan? New kid's got no taste in shows."

I paid them no attention, but picking an Attack on Titan backpack was admittedly a questionable decision for a person of my age. In my defense though, it's definitely not a kid's show.

221, 222, 223- ah, 224. I twisted the knob on my new locker. Tossing my backpack inside, grabbing my Science binder and locking my locker, I started moving along the map I had gotten from the office. I tried to take in as much as I could on my walk there; the locations of different rooms - especially the bathrooms - exits, even things that could be considered landmarks, like the fountain in the middle of the school complex.

I pushed through the door that said "Ms. Zoe" and took a seat in the back. The last thing that I wanted today was to draw more attention to myself. I noticed that people were already trying to avoid me, so I needed to make some friends if I were to survive these next nine months...

"Ander Heit?" I was pulled from my thoughts by Mrs. Zoe's voice. Taking some quick observations, she had reddish-brown hair, round glasses, pale skin, and a face that was way too enthusiastic for a Monday.

"Here." I hoped that she was on roll-call, otherwise I just embarrassed myself majorly. She nodded and looked back at the piece of paper that she was holding.

"Jean Kirkstein?" She looked to a long-faced kid with a spiked bowl-cut, however that works. He almost looks like a horse.

Whew.

I spaced out until after roll-call. This was science, so hopefully we don't read half of a textbook or have a first day "placement exam..." I pulled out my science book. There was a picture of a fish on it. But this book is about physics... I thought to myself. Science book covers always confuse me, no matter what the subject is.

"Turn to page four please, and we'll begin our first lesson!" Ms. Zoe smiled. Again, way too happy. There were several groans and complaints from the students, but I just inwardly sighed and flipped to the page. It's the same every year and every school I go to. They put me in classes I've already been to until they get the report and realize that I'm an "advanced student." They never believe me, though, so I've given up trying to tell them.

"Wait! I almost forgot!" She punched her head. "We have a new student today! Come on up Ander!"

Sigh. It's the beginning of the year, of course there are new students... Is this really necessary?

My seat made a terrible squeal on the hard floor as I got up, making me and several others cringe. Sidestepping my desk, I started moving to the front. The second my foot stepped anywhere near Ms. Zoe, she grabbed my arm and pulled me next to her. I gave her a quizzical look, but the class acted like it was normal.

"Well? Introduce yourself!" She said. I snapped out of my confusion and hoped to god that I didn't stutter.

"I'm Ander. Uh, Heit, Ander Heit." Crap.

"Well, it's good to have you here Ander. You can go back to your seat now." She smiled encouragingly, or it might have just been her resting face. She is always smiling...

After the class was dismissed by the bell, I grabbed my binder with the rest of the class and started for the door. The crowd blocked my exit, so I was the last to reach the door. As I was about to turn the corner, though, a hand grabbed my wrist.

"Ms. Zoe?" I asked. She had held me in for some reason.

"Call me Hanji, please. You're a fan of Attack on Titan?" She asked excitedly. I looked down, trying to block out the memory of my walk down the hall this morning.

"Yes..?"

"I've been waiting for someone who knew about the universe. Come, I need you to test something."

"Uh, Ms. -- Hanji, I need to get to literature..."

"Don't worry about that! I can hold students if I need to." She led me through a door in the back of the room. "Now, this is an experiment I've been working on. Theoretically, it should send you inside the show Attack on Titan!" She exclaimed.

"Seriously?" I was skeptical. "That sounds a little far fetched to me." Hanji pulled out her phone and swiped hurriedly at the screen.

"I tied my phone to a string and recorded it. It definitely works!" She showed a video of her phone going through the portal and being pulled back in. "There's just no way of predicting where you'll come out at the other end..." She frowned thoughtfully.

"When you say 'you', you don't mean send humans there, right?" The show is extremely brutal, and people would definitely die.

"Well, not really, but a human could fit through the 'portal' I suppose." The portal itself was a white, metallic ring with a currently empty center. Hanji walked over and pressed a few buttons on a keypad, and the machine whirred to life. A mirror image of a massive forest appeared in the center of the ring, almost like a hologram. But, it was not just a forest. It looked almost two dimensional. I had to stop myself from trying to touch the trees.

"Admittedly, I'm curious," I stated, "But why am I here?"

"I saw your records, and I know that you're not supposed to be in this class, but I was hoping you could help me design a way to bring objects back once we send them through."

"Are you sure this... machine, is a good idea?"

"Probably not, but it's cool!" She laughed. Oh boy. I walked closer to the portal itself to examine it. It behaved much like a window, the image in front of me was definitely not two dimensional. Except, it looked so much like the show...

"Well, I mean the only thing I can think of right now is tying a rope to the object and hauling it back-" I tripped over the rim and fell face first on the grass.

"Oof!" Wait- grass?

I shot up and desperately looked behind me. The portal was gone.

And I was trapped.
