The ice and fire phoenixes fought bravely in the night sky, the stars of the heavens watching down upon them. A group of dragons and phoenixes watched in distress though, because the ice phoenixes were slowly being beaten by the over-powered fire phoenixes. A young pale purple and blue ice phoenix, was watching in horror when she saw a huge powerful group of fire phoenixes, their big, strong wings swiping slightly through the wind as they advanced towards the 10-year-old phoenix. Suddenly, a bright blue flash went hurtling towards them, it hit a grayish red phoenix near the front of the group who turned to ice before starting to fall to the ground. The group flew quickly, catching the phoenix before it could hit the ground and shatter into millions of tiny pieces. Leah looked up and away from the scene to turn, only to see her father, the most powerful ice phoenix, as well as their king, swooping towards her. Leah's heart sank, knowing she was in huge trouble, not suppose to have left the protective circle around a small area where no one under the age of thirty was supposed to leave unless they were a phoenix in training when it came to becoming a medical phoenix.
"Leah," yells her father, "the camp is frantic, looking for you, I was fighting the leader of the fire phoenix until a messenger phoenix came and told me you were missing."
"Sorry Father, I only wanted to try and fight for a little bit, I know how, so why can't I?" She questions angrily.
Her father sighs tiredly, before answering, "I've already told you, we lost too many phoenixes the last time I acted rashly and allowed phoenixes that were so young to fight, many phoenixes who didn't deserve to die, did."
Leah felt slight pity for her father. She knew he blamed himself, especially when one the phoenixes that died had been her younger, twin brother. Her twin brother, Brian, had been killed protecting her from being killed by a traitor in their own camp who had secretly been working with the fire phoenixes. She hadn't been fast enough to dodge an ice attack he threw at her, only being eight at the time. Brian had flown in front of her and had been frozen solid before starting to fall to the ground, if she had been a little faster, they could have saved him from plummeting to the ground, to his death.
"Leah, I want you to go back to the camp and stay there," she hears her father command. She was about to fly back like her father told her when she saw a gigantic, dark red fire phoenix coming up behind him. Leah was about to call out and warn him when a phoenix came up behind her without her noticing.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you," says a cold and emotionless voice coming from behind her.
Leah turns around quickly and gasps, it was the most deadly fire phoenix, Flare (other than the ruler of the fire phoenixes.) He has a reputation for putting poison on his talons, she could see the black poison clearly as it sat over yellow claws with blood red feathers lining around it.
"W-what do you want!" She yells, sounding much more courageous than she felt.
He ignores her, grinning freakily when the dark red phoenix started slowly and quietly going up behind the ruler of the ice phoenixes.
Leah couldn't take it anymore, glancing behind her to make sure that the deadly fire phoenix still had his attention on his comrade. "Dad, look out," Leah screams.
But it was too late, the giant fire phoenix had breathed in deeply, before blowing out a deadly fire breath, catching her father in the blow, it felt like it happened in slow motion as she watches her father fall to the ground. He was trying to blow it out, but was too late, he hit the ground and she gasps as she just barely sees her father take his last breath before she feels something claw her back and everything went black.
Gemma gasps, waking up from the weird phoenix dreams she has been having for the past week. There was sweat running down her dark red hair as well as her always pale face. She got up, walking quietly to her desk and sat down in the black desk chair. She reached her hand to her necklace, she decided to keep the key for her desk around her neck. She had another one resting safely on her night table, just in case she lost this one. Unlocking her desk, Gemma took out another key and a small writing book. She unlocked the small book. Inside the book, was pictures of different drawn phoenixes and neat, cursive writing. Under each picture of different phoenixes, were different descriptions of them. For the blue phoenix, it was called an ice phoenix. She glanced down at the description she wrote.
