He looked,
Down,
At his hands.
Caked in blood.
Caked in dirt.
Sins.
Sins of obedience.
Sins of murder.

He looked up.
To the East,
Trails of smoke.
West,
Burning fires.
And before him,
Desolation.
And Rebellion.

Down,
His helmet tumbled.
Down,
His armor clattered.
Down,
He stumbled.
Down,
Away from war.

For hours,
He walked.
Searching.
And seeing.
Here,
A young boy.
There,
A family.

All dead.
All slain.
All murdered.
For Peace.
For Security.
For the Empire.

No more,
Would he listen.
No more,
Would he follow.
The Empire takes.
It doesn't give.
They ordered him,
But no longer.

Knees trembling,
He dropped.
He looked down,
At his hands,
Amongst the dead;
Amongst the innocent.
And there,
He wept.
