"Their here!!" That was the sound I awoke to that night, it was pitch black except for everybody's watches. The bright blue lights they transmitted were being waved around frantically as people tried to get of the oncoming wave of bandits, I watched my own mother, leader of the homestead stabbed through the heart by bayonet, her screams echoing through the night like a foghorn a sea.
I bolted up and hit my head on the wooden structure I had put up the night before to block out the rain. I rubbed my head as I climbed out of my cot, my dog Barge was already awake, her was a big husky with white fur and blue eyes. "You hungry boy?" he cocked his head sideways and looked at me. "I guess that means yes," i said. I went over to the ashes of what was a fire, the rain had put it out last night but it was a good place to build one. "Barge go get me some firewood," I said. I heard Barge bark and then race off into the trees. My mine wandered back to the dream I had, it haunted me almost every night I don't know why I had long since accepted the death of my mother. Barge interrupted my train of thought by dropping a whole load of sticks onto the ground in front of me. I reached down to pet Barge but when I did my camouflage long sleeve shirt pulled up just enough too see my watch. In the 2000s watches were things that just clipped on your wrist but now in 3959 they are much more, they are mini computers embedded in the skin of your left arm. I pulled up my sleeve the rest of the way and examined my watch, it was one of the newest models made just for people in a homestead, it was a silvery white and the screen was a light blue. I pulled down my sleeve and pet Barge. I squatted down besides the hole I had dug the night before as a fire place and, I began to set the wood up so it would burn a really hot but small fire when Barge started barking really loud. "Shhh boy bandits will here you," I said pulling him over to me. I let him go and he started growling a something. I reached for my 45 auto and had just had it out when I got hit over the head and the whole world went black.
