your eyes crashing into my eyes
was I accidentally falling in love?
___

The same morning bell. The same uncomfortable cot. The same roommate. Everything had been the same since Jonah's first day at Saint Mary's Orphanage. He shared a room with the nerdiest boy in the entire place, and that included Peter, who insisted that he was a wizard. Jonah's roommate was Cyrus.
This was Jonah's life for ten years. And he seemed to be the only one bothered by it.
"Jonah, that was the bell. Wake up. If you're late you don't get the good stuff and you know that," Cyrus said, throwing his blanket to the floor. Jonah was always one of the last ones to breakfast.
"Yeah, I know. I've been doing the same crap for ten years." Jonah stood up and rubbed his eyes. As annoying as Cyrus was, he always kept Jonah on time for things. And that was annoying too.
Jonah dragged himself out of bed and into the mess hall. Everyone was already in line, waiting to get their food.
"Good morning, Jonah!"
"Morning, Suzie," Jonah groaned to the younger girl. He hated this place, but everyone else seemed to love it. For Jonah, Saint Mary's was Hell on steroids.
He sat down at the crappy wooden table and started to pick at his food. The dark haired boy he shared a room with sat down next to him, smiling.
"So, how's your morning going so far?" Cyrus asked, smiling.
"Shitty. Like every morning here is," Jonah replied, rolling his eyes.
"Look, I know you hate this place, but you gotta at least pretend to like it. For the little kids." Cyrus put his arm around Jonah. Something about it made Jonah feel...happy? Impossible. Jonah moved Cyrus's arm and stood up.
"Screw this, I'm out." Jonah left. Cyrus ran after him, going into their room and shutting the door.
"What's been with you lately? Is there something you're not telling me?" Cyrus asked, leaning against the door.
"Of course! I don't tell you anything! In case you don't remember, I don't like you," Jonah shouted.
"Well I like you. A-as a friend, of c-course." He was lying. Cyrus liked Jonah as more than a friend. He had liked Jonah that way for three years.
"I don't care if you don't like me. I just want to know what's wrong because you've been moping around more than usual for the past month. So if you don't tell me then-"
"Shut up!" And then, Jonah's left hand was on Cyrus's neck. His right hand in Cyrus's hair. Four eyes looking at each other for the first time. It was magic.
"So-sorry, Cyrus. I shouldn't have yelled like that."
"It's okay." Their lips were inches apart. Jonah could kiss Cyrus if he wanted to. And in that moment...he did. He wanted to kiss Cyrus. His nerdy roommate. Who to Jonah, was starting to become more than that.
"I really want to-"
"I know. I can tell by the way you're looking at me right now, Jonah. But we shouldn't."
"Maybe we shouldn't. But that doesn't mean we couldn't," Jonah whispered.
"You're right, Dr. Seuss." Jonah laughed and rolled his eyes.
"Fuck off."
"You didn't want me to a minute ago, Jonah."
"Can I just kiss you already? I don't know why I want to but I do. It's not like I'm attracted to you or anything. I'm not gay or some shit," Jonah said, blushing.
"Well I'm gay...or some shit." Cyrus said, moving and sitting down on his bed. Jonah followed Cyrus and sat next to him.
"Cyrus. I'm sneaking out tonight. You coming with me?" Jonah asked.
"But that's against the rules."
"So? It's not like we have to worry. We're too old for adoption. Come on, say yes. Please?" Jonah leaned closer to Cyrus. Chills went down Cyrus's spine. There was definitely electricity between them, but only Cyrus knew it.
"O-okay. But we have to come back. We can't get in trouble," Cyrus whispered. Jonah laughed and walked to the door. He left the room and left Cyrus alone with his thoughts. He was going to sneak out with Jonah Beck. What had he gotten himself into?
