The Beginning

I squealed and jumped up and down on my seat. I looked out onto the ocean and squealed even louder. Mummy turned around and smiled at me. I gave her a cheeky grin and started playing with my hair. Daddy turned down the radio and smiled as well. It's our first vacation in forever! Daddy's usually busy with running his mining company and Mummy's usually in Sydney doing principal work. But they promised me their undivided attention all summer! Now, we will be camping down the coast of Eastern Australia!

"Hey bubba," I looked up at my Dad when he spoke. "We're almost there." He said. I nodded and looked out the front window. My excitement was bubbling inside of me. I sorta calmed down as I watched trees go by. Something that caught my eye was a person with a hood on, sneaking into a bushy path. Huh.

"Did you see that?" I asked and placed my face on the window as we passed by.

"See what?" Mum asked. My common sense was tingling and imma not listen to it. I never do anyway.

"Nothing..." My parents shrugged it off and started talking about stuff that I didn't really care about. Soon, we stopped just off the beach. But other people are here? Is Daddy going to use his fame to get rid of them. I looked out to the people setting up and gasped in delight. I quickly pulled off my seat-belt and bolted out of the car. It didn't work the way I was hoping. I face-planted into the sand and my curly blonde hair got sand all over it. I stood up before Mum could come baby me and brushed it off. Amelia was giggling and trying to contain it. She's my best friend and no one can come in-between us. I rushed over to her with my arms wide. Just before I could smother her in sand as well, she stopped me.

"I'm not hugging a sand monster." She snorted. Aunt Tracey came over and picked me up in a hug. I giggled as she semi-tickled me. I was put back down on the ground and Uncle Steve did the same. I looked over to Evey who just rolled her eyes at me. Pssh, older kids. My attention rolled back to Amy. I tugged on her shirt and pointed to the beach.

"Can we? PLEEEEEEEASE!" I begged. We kicked off our shoes and ran off towards the sand.

"Don't go to far, girls!" Daddy shouted to us. I turned around and saw them pulling up tents. Yes! Skipping the labour. We ran across the white sand, tiring easily. It was so hard. I sighed heavily.

"Why does sand have to be difficult!" I whined loudly. We kept going until we reached harder sand. I laughed and started skipping across it. Amy was jogging lightly next to me and I smiled. Show off time.

"Amy, watch this!" I shouted over the waves and did a hand-stand. She stopped and gave me an applause. It wasn't exaggerated. I wiped the sand off on my strawberry beach dress and reached down to pull up my bright pink leggings. Amy pulled up her denim jeans as well and we both ran into the water. I started jumping up and down, making huge splashes and Amy was slowly skimming her foot along the water. I kicked water at her and she gasped as water dripped from her brown hair.

"You got me!" She bent down in laughter but soon I was covered in sea water as well. I did the same thing as Amy did.

"You got my hair!" I shouted. My hair was doused and my clothes were drenched! I looked up at her to see she had already took off running. I chased after her. She turned to see me catching up. Amy bent down and pulled up a ball of wet sand. She chucked it at me and started running faster. I did another handstand and kicked it back at her. She easily dodged and stopped running. While I was doing my handstand, I pulled out my own ball of wet sand.

"Onguarde!" I shouted while lifting the sand in the air as if it was a sword. She smiled and lifted her own sword. We ran at each other. I cartwheeled out of the way of her first strike and stood back up. I threw a ball of sand back at her and she chopped it in half. I ran at her and jumped. We both fell to the sand in a fit of giggles. I rolled off her and started making a sand angel. Amy stood up and watched me with amusement sketched on her face.

"Your hair will get ruined, you know." She stated before sitting down next to me. I sat up and we both watched the sunset.

"I like it when the sky's pretty." I mumbled. She nodded in agreement and we both smelt the fire coming from camp.

"Better get back before they eat the food without us." Amy said before standing up. I stumbled to my feet and ran for it.

"Not unless I eat it all first!" I shouted over my shoulder. She started running after me and I beat her to the camp.

"I'll get you later, Jessie." Amy threatened before sitting in on of the chairs around the campfire.

"Not if I get you first!" I whispered. We both laughed before looking into the fire. She reached over and grabbed a strand of my now insane blonde hair. Her hands started twisting around I guessed she was braiding it. Mummy and Aunt Tracey walked past, stopping to kiss us on the head. Uncle Steve handed us a marshmallow stick and pointed to a small tent close to the beach.

"That's your tent, girls." He told us before walking off to do who knows what. I leaned back in my chair and watched the flames grow bigger from the firewood. This is gonna be the best holiday ever.
