105 human years ago, I was only a 5 year old. I didn't know much about the world around me or much about myself. The only thing I knew back then was that I wasn't normal. No one told me I was different, but they called me special, so I assume that means I am different. But I didn't know how. I always wanted to know how I was special. Why was I special? I asked my mum but all she said was "Don't worry Michael, you'll find out when you're older. Just wait until then, okay?" She would always say with a smile, looking at the sky while patting my head.
I always wondered when I would become old enough to know. I really wanted to know, but I waited. I waited and waited. Then one day, I found the reason why I was special. That night was the worst night of my life, yet it was also the best night of my life.
On the night of February 7th, 1912, I awoke to the sound of a glass object crack as if it broke. I threw the covers off of me and ran out of my room in the direction of the sound. Running down the stairs, I heard my dads' voice, angry and stern. My older brother and sister joined me on the stairs, looking at one another wondering what was happening.
Standing in our pajamas, we walked down the rest of the stairs to peek into the dining room. Hiding behind the door, I saw mom and dad standing near the door, and a man dressed in black on the other end. They spoke in a language I didn't recognize. The man in black had his face covered to where only his eyes showed through the black clothing. "Stop this now, Ronald. You can't do this." said my mom in English. "Why can't I? I'm already here, so why don't I take what I came for?" replied the man called Ronald.
"What's going on?" asked my older brother, Jordan, as he walked into the room. Kayla and I backed away, for we didn't want to get noticed. "Jordan, what are you doing here?!" My dad questioned with rage, turning his head to look at Jordan. "Honey, don't yell like that. You might wake Kayla and Michael." Said my mom in a calm voice. "I don't care about that right now." Snapped my dad. "Jordan, go take Michael and Kayla to a safe place. We don't need you involved with this."
"You think he'll do that?" said Ronald with a little snicker. "If I were you two, I wouldn't worry about the children. I'd worry about what I'm about to do to you!" said the mysterious figure as he quickly ran to the other side of the room in the blink of an eye and drew out a sword hidden under his cloak. My father reacted quickly and deflected the swing of the sword as my mother came running towards the door with Jordan.
"You need to get your siblings and go to the safe house. You remember where it is, right?" my mother said, hands on Jordan's shoulders. "Mom, what's going on?" I asked with curiosity. We could hear the sounds of swords clashing against one another as we stood there in silence. My mother looked at me and Kayla with a horrified face. "Mother, what's wrong?" I asked, tears coming into my eyes. She walked over to me and bent down so that we were Seeing Eye to eye.
"It's okay Michael. Everything is going to be okay, just follow Jordan, okay?" she said to me in her soothing voice, tears forming in her eyes. "Mother..." I whispered as tears started to roll down my cheeks. I wasn't sure why I was crying. All I knew was that something bad was going to happen. My mum hugged me as I stood there crying. Jordan and Kayla joined our little group hug, sounds of battle going on in the background. "You must go quickly now. Get your emergency bags and follow Jordan. Do what he says and don't ask questions. Understand?"
"I don't want to, mom. I'm scared." I said through the tears. She smiled as she stood up, letting go of me and the hug. Jordan grabbed my shoulder and made me take a few steps back. Kayla was staring at the door most of the time, listening to the sounds of battle still going on in the room next door. "It's alright, Michael. Leave everything to mom and dad. They'll solve this problem. Okay?" I nodded while wiping tears from my face.
Turning around, The three of us rushed upstairs to get our bags and leave. When we got to the top, Jordan paused and said "Meet me by the back door. Don't do anything else or go anywhere else. Understand?" Kayla and I nodded our heads and we all ran off to get our things. As I was running by the battle area, on my way to the back door, I felt something horrible. I stopped running and walked to the big wooden doors. I opened them just so I can see a sliver of what was happening inside. And what I saw, I couldn't take in.
What i saw inside that dinning room was horrifying.
