When we were young

The First Day

The first day Marie and Leo met was during their freshman year of high school at Texas County High School. Marie was one of the popular girls who hung out with rich kids whose parents paid for everything. Marie wasn't quite wealthy herself but her family worked with their hands to get where they are now. Leo was raised differently, moving to San Juan from a small town. His family lived paycheck to paycheck just to get by. At school, Leo was the antisocial nerd who was picked on frequently. He had been depressed since he was 13. The constant bullying at his old school and economic struggles at home took a toll on him. The first day was to change everything for the both of them.

On his first day at TC High, Leo woke up that morning preparing to adjust to the city life. He opened his closet wondering if he should go with his normal attire, the t-shirt and jeans or switch it up a bit to look more "Urban" as he called it. He wanted to make a good first impression but also wanted to stay true to himself. He walked over to his drawer and glanced at his picture of his grandmother. His grandmother passed away when he was about 10 years old. Leo admired his grandmother a lot and losing her took a piece of him away but he kept her picture and words to hold onto. She would say to him, " You know baby, you have to be true and honest to yourself now because if not, you'll be living in a lie and lies get you nowhere." Leo kept that into consideration and went with the t-shirt and jeans.

Marie walked out the shower excited to see her friends after a long summer, she prepares her bathroom counter with a straightener, hair products, and makeup. She began to daydream about her encounter of the summer with a jock named Randy. She pictured it as she was in the movie Grease when Danny and Sandy were on the beach. She really had a thing for Randy and hoped to see him again in school. Marie started working on her long and thick brown hair. Straightening every strand and finishing it off with hairspray. Marie never worn makeup before but after watching countless contour makeup videos, she decided to make a little change, she thought, "Just for today", and opened her big walk in closet. She picked out the beautiful white dress with pink roses all over and slid on her black sandals. After the transformation, she headed out the door to start the day.

Once Leo arrived to school, his first intention was to find all his classes so that way he wouldn't get lost and be late on his first day. His first class was Biology in room SCI 220. He had to go through the science hall which wasn't hard to look for because of all the science related posters in the hallway beside almost every classroom. Leo began looking for his second class which was History in room HIS 115. Leo loved history, he believed that it was important to learn and understand history because one day history will end up repeating itself and it will be up to the new generation to know how to handle it. As he was leaving to find his math class, Leo stumbled upon a extremely beautiful with a white dress with pink roses. At that moment, he was having a hard time looking for the math hall and insisted he asked the beautiful girl.

"Umm, excuse me, do you know where the math hall is?" He asked the girl. She calmly replied seemingly relieved, "You're looking for it too! I have been looking all over. How about we find it together, ya know?" "Sure that's even better." Leo replied friendly. As the two young teenagers walked around the campus looking in and out, they saw an older student and asked him directions. "Yeah man, the math hall is by the gym through a side entrance, I know its hard to see because you would think its the coaches office but its a mini hall down there to your right!" The freshmen thanked the upperclassman and began ending their search. Leo trying to gain confidence asking the girl what her name is before she asked him, "So which room are you looking for?" Leo responds "Room SB 221, what about you?" The girl looks at her schedule, and laughed "Room SB 221 for 3rd period." Leo laughed as well realizing they have a class together. The school bell rung scaring both of them and Leo quickly ask for the girl's name. "Marie and you?" "I'm Leo, nice to meet you Marie." Marie quickly shakes Leo's hand and tells him she'll see him in 3rd period and the two depart.
