It's been three weeks since Barry met Hal and the guy wasn't as bad as he thought. Hell, he wasn't bad at all. He was nice and outgoing, easy to talk to and compassionate. He cared about life beyond himself and Barry liked that about him. Joe absolutely loved the guy and that was what surprised Barry the most about their partnership.

When Eddie had first become Joe's partner, he didn't like him and always gave him hell. With Hal it was a whole different reaction and he liked him from the start. A lot of the CCPD liked him but there were also a lot who thought that Hal was stuckup and they were always talking about him behind his back. Barry always stood up for him and had said plenty of times that it took a stuckup person to know another and he might have said some other things he shouldn't have but no ome deserved to be talked about behind their back.

Three weeks though and Barry still thought something was up with Hal. He was always out at night doing god knows what but Barry never pressed the issue. But when Hal came in one morning with a black eye and a busted lip, Barry pulled him aside and told him to tell him what was going on. Hal had said he got into a bar fight but Barry knew he wasn't telling the whole truth. However, he let it go. Hal obviously didn't want to tell him--or anyone--what was going on.

It's two days later and Barry is up in his lab, examining evidence from a case that Hal and Joe were working on today. Julian had called ahead and told him he'd be in late so he was alone. Not...that he minded.

A knock on the lab door made Barry look up. He found himself staring at Hal, who was wearing dark jeans, a gray t-shirt and a snug brown leather jacket that made his green/hazel eyes more intense. He was also smiling. God that smile....

"Barry." Hal says waving a hand in front of his face.

Barry blinked and shook his head, trying to clear it. He looked back at Hal who was watching him closely. "Sorry did you want something?"

Hal chuckled and his smile grew. "Yeah. I was wondering if you wanted to go to the bar with me. Grab a few drinks and then head to the movies? Or we could do that the other way around."

Barry stared at the man in front of him, his eyes full of confusion. Was he asking him on a date? Hal stared back, an expression that said 'well are you going to give me an answer?'

Barry frowned at him and said, "Uh...I can't. I have to work late tonight."

Hal narrowed his eyes and crossed his arms. "You work late every night. Take a break."

Barry shook his head and stood up to walk to the other side of the room, Hal following him like a lost puppy. Barry basically ignored him and started to test evidence for another case a few detectives had brought up to him.

"My job is a lot more complicated than yours Hal. I actually have to test evidence and then wait hours for the testing to finish. So I can't alright? Just go away."

Hal ignored his complaint and grabbed Barry's arm, spinning him around. "Barry c'mon. I know you want to have some fun. Why not have fun with me?"

Barry yanked his arm back and shoved him away. "If you are implying what I think you are, I'm with Iris."

Hal smirked. "But for how long?"

Barry stared at him, confusion crossing his features as his brain tried to work out what he was saying. "What the hell is that supposed to mean?"

Hal took a step closer to Barry, who stepped back. "Let's say Iris were to...end this relationship between you two because it's causing to much strife in your life, in her life...what happens then?"

Barry blinked at Hal, who was continueing to come closer to him. Barry kept backing away until his back hit the wall. He felt unsafe right about now and he wanted so badly to run but he couldn't use his speed in front of Hal.

Hal stood over him and leaned forward, placing his lips against Barry's ear. "I know you were checking me out when I first came up here."

A blush dusted Barry's cheeks but he shoved him backwards, glaring up at Hal. "Stop being an asshole. And besides I wouldn't check you out even if you were a girl." Barry started past him. "Now leave me alone so I can work."

Hours later Hal was standing hovering over Barry's sunroof, watching him flit around and testing evidence to help others solve their cases and he felt himself smile. It was a bit wrong to come at Barry that way and he shouldn't have approached him after Barry said he couldn't. But what can Hal say?

Barry was obviously playing hard to get. Despite him being with Iris, Hal knew he was checking him out and that was what kept Hal on his trail. His hard to get attitude was going to be the death of him because he wouldn't stop until Barry was his.

Even if he had to follow Barry around.
