Swish, four hundred ninety-three. Swish, four hundred ninety-four. Swish, four hundred ninety-five. Swish, four hundred ninety-six. Swish, four hundred ninety-seven. Tyler glanced back. His mom was looking away, so he moved forward, closer to the basket, to do layups for the last three shots. His five-hundred shots before he was to eat were done. He could finally eat dinner now.
He caught the familiar smell of cooked carrots and peas. He was to tired to complain about how his dad had promised him he'd order taco bell today. At least it wasn't bananas. Tyler hated bananas.
"Are you working hard on that scholarship?" His mom asked.
That was pretty much the plan. Tyler would get a scholarship, and go into college playing basketball.
Tyler replied by stuffing as many peas as his mouth could fit down his throat, before-
"Hey! Sit down before eating!" His dad scolded. Tyler sighed.
"Hey, Where's Jay?"
Zack, Tyler's younger brother, started to answer, but Tyler was already heading upstairs to get his seven-year-old brother; Jay Joseph. Maddison, Tyler's 12-year-old sister, had just come back from her friend's house and began scooping up peas into a bowl.
Tyler got Jay downstairs, and after helping Jay with his food, he finally got to his own.
Tyler secretly hated being the oldest. It gave him so much responsibility, and with basketball, and twelfth grade right around the corner, Tyler sometimes got more than a little stressed. So, he would go and shoot baskets. But a swish didn't solve everything.
"Tyler, weren't you starving to death a few seconds ago?"
Tyler stopped picking at his peas and shot Zack, who chose the worst moments to bring out his sarcastic fifteen-year-old self, a death glare.
His mom glanced at Tyler. "Eat your food buddy."
