i pick off the remaining blades of grass that had made their way onto my bare feet. the wind begins to pick up in intensity which causes me to shudder, given the fact that i thought it'd be a good idea to wear a short sleeve shirt at 5:00am in 50 degree weather. despite my uneasiness due to the cold weather, I notice the sky's vibrant colors filling the Summer air.

this place I've stumbled upon between the various willow trees and greenery by my small home has become a safe space for me to relax. which says a lot, due to the fact that I can never relax since my mind is endlessly racing.

frankly, it's irritating. so irritating to the point where i grow fearful that i'll do something to myself. i feel as if I'm going insane, no one understands the emotional trauma I endure on a day to day basis. my phone buzzes, it's probably mom reminding me to come home for breakfast.

i reluctantly rise from the comfortableness of my spot on the hill I found, and make my way towards my house. as i turn onto my street, i mindlessly hum random songs to myself when I notice that the house next door to mine has two moving trucks parked outside.

weird, when did mike and shannon move out? i mentally think.

i continue to watch the commotion that takes place next door, when I see a family exit their Toyota SUV. there's a mother, a father, and two boys. one looks significantly older than the other, while the remaining boy seems like he'd be close in age to me. we lock eyes for a few seconds, being the one to break eye contact due to the sheer awkwardness of the situation. i feel the all too familiar sensation of embarrassment as a light blush subtly spreads throughout my light skin and continue towards my house.

oh god, he definitely saw me staring. hey look, he's also really attractive. shit.

reaching for my front door, i make a poor attempt at trying to sneak in one last glance before entering. my head whips around to find the boys eyes already plastered on the back of my head. he flashes a small, closed mouth smile, causing me to feel somewhat warm inside.

while stepping inside the sun fled house, i'm immediately hit with the satisfying aroma of my mothers cooking. her food has always made me happy (although, I could eat almost anything and be content as food in general is great). it's always something she's deservingly prided herself on.

"mother I'm home!" i yell.

"in the kitchen, honey!"

peering into the large, ceramic pan , i find scrambled eggs along with various other ingredients that had been integrated inside.

"eggs scramble with potato and bacon?" asking with a smile.

"you're favorite. honey you really shouldn't be wearing short sleeves in this freezing weather," she subtly scolds.

"yeah well sorry that the first thing i do when waking up around 5am isn't making sure to put on the right clothes," i joke.

"alright, but when you get sick with a cold I won't be the one making you chicken noodle soup."

"well let's hope I don't get sick then. by the way, when did Mike and Shannon move out? and who's that family next door? They seem interesting, i really hope they're not coming to my school. you know how I fee-"

"oh, that's the new family that moved in! the joseph's, the mothers absolutely lovely. speaking of them, i would like you to invite to invite them to our Fourth of July party on Tuesday."
