Premonition

Ninth Division Barracks - Lieutenants Quarters

"Get up already, you lazy slacker! For the love of God, you're the Lieutenant, act like one! If you keep being so irresponsible I may as well be made Lieutenant myself. Now, get up already!"

What a great way to start the day. Being awoken by Kujomarus obnoxious voice is not how I planned to start my day. For just being a Third Seat he never stops bossing me around. Well, it's not like he was getting mad over nothing, I guess.
I woke up too late again, today. It's happened to me quite a lot recently, although I can't really explain it, as I'm usually on time.
As I leave the room I feel a cold breeze rushing over my face. I had not expected autumn so early this year. Taking a walk in the morning calms me down everytime. But just today, I cannot seem to calm down. Just what is it?

"Good morning, Lieutenant Hisagi!!"

"Good morning, Fifth Seat Akiyama."

As per usual, people greet me and go about their daily business. I would, too, if I didn't have this uneasy feeling. It's hard to put it into words. It's like.. I'm having a bad premonition. I can't describe where it came from.

Lost in thought I bump into my Division's Captain, Kensei Muguruma.

"Well, look who we have here! Just what the hell have you been doing this whole morning?!", Kensei shouted.

"Captain!... I'm sorry, it's just tha..."

"Nevermind, I was just joking anyway." He chuckled. "Look, I know that you don't get too much sleep lately, so I think I'll go easy on you today - is what I'd like to say. We have been summoned, follow me."

"Where to?", I ask, confused.

"To the Captain Commander's Office."

First Division Barracks - Captain Commander Office

"Ninth Division Captain Kensei Muguruma here. Requesting permission to enter."

Captain seems rather calm today. This is very unusual. Well, I might ask him later, although I don't really expect an answer.

"Do come in, please.", the person from behind the door said.

Captain Commander Shunsui Kyoraku.. I haven't seen him in a while. Why would he have need to summon the two of us?

Upon entering the room, which should rather be called a balcony, Captain Commander Shunsui Kyoraku sits at his desk, smiling at the two Shinigami. With a tired voice, he says:

"Welcome, you two. Would you like some delicious tea? I had my Nanao-chan prepare some for this occasion."

"I'm afraid I'll have to decline. Let's get to business already.", Kensei said, slightly annoyed.

Well, Captain does seem to be the same as always. I'm probably still too tired to give this too much thought.

"As you wish. As you know, there hasn't been a single violent occurence ever since the defeat of the Wandenreich, apart from the usual Hollow attacks. And by allying with the remaining Arrancar we have gained both a powerful and reliable ally, should the need ever arise. In short, we have secured the peace in Soul Society. However, I fear that peace may soon be broken. In the Ruko..."

The Captain Commander was suddenly interrupted by an unexpected visitor. The door slams open.

"I deeply apologize for the sudden intrusion, Captain Commander, but I have news of the upmost urgency to report!"

Abarai?! What's he doing here? And what information could he possibly have that he would just barge into the Captain Commander's office?

"Calm down and catch your breath, Abarai-kun. And don't worry about the intrusion. Well, what is it you wish to tell me?" A slight bit of worry could be heard in the Captain Commander's voice.

"Thank you very much! The Bureau of Research and Development has reported that a resident in the 78th District of Rukongai, Inuzuri, has gone berserk. He possesses a powerful Reiatsu and has wounded several people already. Captain Commander, I ask for permission to go and eliminate the culprit!", Renji said, still catching his breath.

"Mh.. well, it's similar to what I was about to tell these gentlemen. Alright, that settles it. Abarai-kun, you grew up in Inuzuri so you know the terrain best. As such, I grant you permission to deal with the threat. However, I'd like you to let these two assist you in this matter. Is that fine with you?"

"It is, thank you very much!", Renji says, bowing down.

"Captain Muguruma. I know that you have had some bad experience with being sent to the Rukongai. However, I hope you accept this mission nonetheless."

"Tsk, I won't be caught with my pants down this time around."

Seems like reminding him of this pissed him off a little. Well, maybe the Captain Commander did it on purpose to motivate him.

"Watch out for each other out there. I am sure you will be able to complete this task. Now, go!", the Captain Commander shouted.

The three Shinigami use their Shunpo and set out for Inuzuri immideately.
