Living aboard the Jolly Roger is not as bad as people think. Yeah, the crew stinks, and it can get a little boring, but it's actually not bad. It's actually quite peaceful. Listening to the sound of the water lapping against the side of the ship and the crew walking around on board, singing songs and laughing at their own terrible jokes gave me a sense of peace. I had no idea that today would be so much more different.
"Good Morning Mak, sleep well?" Smee, the captain's first mate, asked as soon as my head popped out of my cabin.
"As well as I do every night," I said with a smile. Smee laughed.
"The captain is waiting up on deck for you," he said, giving me a wave. Smee is a short, stout little man. First Impressions say he's a bit daft, but he's actually quite intelligent.
I head up to the deck and take a deep breathe of fresh ocean air. I look up and Hook is up at the stern, looking over the port side of the ship. His raven black hair, ruffled from the wind and his hand and hook resting gently on the rail. He turns as I come up the steps, my black boots banging on the wooden stairs.
"Mak! You're up! Great!" His face lit up when he saw me.
"Morning dad, I said, taking the flask of rum he always keeps hidden in jacket from him. Yes, my dad is Captain Hook. By birth and everything. I get my raven black hair from both him and my mother. The uncontrollable thick curls, i get from her alone, as well as my figure, my dad tells me. My attitude and my love of rum I get from him. My mother died soon after I was born. He used to tell me stories about her. He would tell me about how they met in a tavern and they fell in love and he left her coward of a husband and her son to be with him. He talked about how they would sail the seas together for years. And then he talked of how her husband became the Dark One and found them. Then he talked of how he ripped her heart out and crushed it before his eyes and right after that, chopped off his hand. Dad keeps calling him the Crocodile.
"Rum in the morning? Really?" He asked. I raised an eyebrow. "Okay, fair enough, anyways, I have good news!"
"Explains the mood, what's up?" I ask, taking a sip of rum.
"I finally have a way of getting off this island!"
"What! How?" I cry. Dad and I have been trying for years to get away from Neverland. We've been sailing these waters for far too long. Here, in Neverland, you never age, so dad has been 31 and I have been 17 for way too long.
Dad pulled a small white bean from one of his jacket pockets.
"What is that?" I asked.
"It's a magic bean! It will open a portal to a whole new world. One away from here! Bealfire dropped it last night when the Lost Boys took him," Dad said. He was referring to my half brother who found his way to Neverland.
"When we use it?" I asked, excited.
"Now!" Dad said as he chucked the bean into the water. "Hold onto something!"
I grabbed a hold of the railing and braced myself for the portal. But before we reached the portal, the mast shifted, swinging up behind me, smacking the back of my head and rendering me unconscious, flinging me into the water. The last thing I hear before I black out completely is my dad screaming my name.
