I was at summer camp when I met her, her name was Dawn she was both my first love and a pain in the ass. She was long wavy auburn hair reaching the center of her back, she was slightly shorter than me at the height of 5'1. She had freckles dotting her nose and her beautiful brown eyes would sparkle when she smiled, everything about her was exquisite i couldn't get enough, and before you say it yes i am lovesick.

While I was at hoofbeat she was my best friend the only person I could confide in I trusted her and I don't trust easy. We were in the same cabin and she had the bunk across from me, during flashlight time we would smile at eachother and I knew that we had a friendship that no one could touch. We also shared schedules and were first hour riders and took creative writing as the extra activity. Over the course of two weeks I knew I was falling for her but there was one bump in the road, I wasn't gay I had a boyfriend back home (oh how innocent and naive I was).

She had confessed a huge secret to me and was the first one she told, I remember it so clearly we had met at trading post with our usual greeting of a hug and got on line while we were waiting in a comfortable silence she leaned over and whispered "I have something important to tell you". I nodded and had said to wait until we got our treats. Once we got into trading post we both picked out what we wanted and I offered to pay since her mum only gave her ten dollars for the two weeks, she accepted only because I insisted. When we got to the willow tree and sat in our usual spot she said in a hushed voice "Emily the thing I wanted to tell you is that I think I'm falling for you and I'm sorry" she went on rambling i then to stop her pulled her in for a hug and whispered "I think I am to" we just sat in silence for the rest of the evening. When we headed back to the cabin we resumed our usual teasing banter and I was relieved that nothing had changed.

As the two weeks were drawing to a close Dawn and I had gotten closer than ever before, she was the only one I could be myself around, she helped me with my insecurities and I helped her with her own we were eachothers companion, therapist, friend things i had never believed in before this. On the last night at the campfire we had stood next to each other we were both silently crying sad to leave each other we headed back and before we stepped in she stopped me and leaned over and kissed my cheek I went as red as a tomato. She giggled and ran inside my heart melted

The morning we were leaving we had riding demonstrations she had walked up to me and wished me luck. After my turn was up she went and i wished her luck as well. But the worst thing is that i knew this was too good to last she walked right up to me before she left and said "we can never see eachother again and don't talk to me ever again" i didn't know what had happened she walked away and left me to pick up the pieces of my broken heart.
