Nobody really knows what happened here. Very little is known of Old Winston, the elderly man who lived in the house at the top of the hill. The only thing that people really know about him is that he was a warped old beggar who...kinda...'lost it' after he lost his wife to cancer some twenty years ago.
He passed away himself last winter, and a week passed before anybody had realised what had happened. Moreover, a few days after his body was brought out of the house, it somehow mysteriously caught fire, resulting in most, if not all of the interior structure being destroyed.
All that is left now is an empty shell - a void which the locals claim is a portal to hell itself. Upon investigation, the police declared the fire an act of arson by a group of attention-seeking youths, yet upon venturing into the decrepit building, I couldn't see any physical proof. I remember touching the charred walls and peeling the soot-blackened wallpaper off, only to reveal runes and pentagrams which somehow survived the blaze.
I had felt an unwelcome presence that day, almost as if some demonic entity was lurking within, yet I also sensed a supernatural aura. Ultimately, I was drawn back to return, and so here I am now. I place my EVP recorder on a specific place on the scorched floor - the spot where Winston's body had been found, exactly where he'd died of a cardiac arrest.
As I walk over to the other side of the room, I find the charred light switch. The air is musty, and the taste on my tongue is overly foul, as if I can taste death itself. I was always warned that this house was evil in a way, yet I'm still surprised that the very walls themselves seem to be humming, as if the house itself had found a voice for its solitude...
"He...l...lo..."
It feels as if my heart stops upon hearing the disembodied voice coming from the EVP recorder. The hairs on the back of my neck are standing on end, and my chest feels tight as I slowly turn to look at the machine, only to see a dark humanoid shape moving in the shadows, it's piercing red eyes staring straight into mine.
