"But that's the problem Martha, I don't need a husband." Explained Elizabeth as she wiggled into her gown for the upcoming ball tonight.
"But Miss Elizabeth, you are going to be queen some day. You should at least keep your options open." Martha replied as she tightened the strings of the corset on Elizabeth's dress.
"Keep them open? I am only 16!" She snapped back and sighed. "Martha, will you hand me the diamond necklace that father gave me this morning?" Asked Elizabeth as she played with the fabric at the waist of her dress. Moments later Martha placed a sparkling diamond necklace around Elizabeth's neck and fastened it. It was enchanting the way the diamonds glittered in the light.
"It's perfect!" Martha exclaimed as she nudged Elizabeth closer to the full length mirror in the corner of her massive bedroom. She admired her glittering gown from the mirror. How the intricate, hand-sewn beading trailed up and down the bodice in whimsical, abstract patterns. The train was just the right length. The lace and silk corresponded beautifully along the skirt of the dress.
"It is beautiful. Thank you." Elizabeth said as she turned away from the mirror and smiled a toothy grin at her maid. She sat down on her cushioned stool and started grooming the ends of her honey colored hair with a brush that she had grabbed from her vanity.
A few moments later Martha said that it was time to go to and they both walked out of the bedroom and down the long hallways. Her heels clicked against the cold hard floor with every step she took. Soon enough they came up to two large doors. The guards on either side opened the doors to reveal a ballroom with hundreds of people dressed in their finest attire. Elizabeth gave a shy smile to her maid and started down the long staircase. With every step she took, more people stopped to stare at the beautiful young woman.
