My hand rested on the wall of a building that looked to be abandoned. My breath shaky and ragged.
How did I get this far away?
I was on the verge of tears as I heard footsteps approach me yet again. Trying to run again was pointless, I was already in that person's grasp. Regardless I took a step forward, limping towards the end of the street. Whimpering each time weight fell on my right leg.
Turning the corner, I checked my leg to see where the pain was coming from only to see red staining my leg.
When did it get this bad?
My sobs continuing to grow as I kept on limping away. I stopped in my place the second I heard a gunshot, screaming in agony.
My knees buckled beneath me and I fell into a pool of red. I gripped my stomach as it started to rain, the deafening sound soon drowning out my sobs. The pool around me dispersed into the rainwater, leaving me soaking wet.
My cries fell silent as the gun was pointed at me again, the figure behind the weapon approaching me.
What did I do to deserve this?
"Die." I heard the figure mumble, paralyzing me in fear. The sound of the trigger clicking broke me out of my trance. Covering my head as I ducked into a ball, sending waves of pain up my top half. The sound of a gunshot was heard but it wasn't at me.
Lifting my head, I saw the figure on his knees. We both sharing the same look in our eyes. Terrified. I tried to make out what was behind him, it looked like another person.
Another person?
The shadowy figure then continuing my way, pushing the helpless man on his knees to the ground. Instinctively I tried with all my might to move backwards, but I just wasn't fast enough. The figure then bent down to reach my wet, blood soaked hand, moving his lips to my ear. Warm breath leaving me in a trance as the figure spoke.
"Don't worry dear. I am not the enemy." The voice was manly yet gentle, but not a voice I recognized. The man slightly tightened his grip on my hand, as he slipped his free hand under my legs. Before I knew it, he was carrying me bridal style ever so gently, seeming as if I was a fragile vase.
Looking up at his face which held a stoic expression, his dripping jet black hair draping over his eyes. What a mysterious man indeed. Especially as to why he had come to my aid.
My curiosity no longer able to be suppressed. "Who. . . Are you?" My words shaky and weak.
His hand caressed my face. "Oh darling. That you will find out in due time."
I wanted to ask him more questions but my mouth refused to open as the world around me soon feel dark.
~~~
Waking up to blinding lights was not exactly pleasant, but a gasp of joy pulled me from them. Mother? Everything felt so hazy. I tried to lift myself but it hurt too much. Looking around me, I saw my mother and many doctors.
Was I in a hospital?
Mother then threw her arms around my bedridden body, sobbing into my neck. "Oh, my dear, I thought you'd never wake up!" Weakly I lifted my arms and tried my best to hug Mother back.
"It is indeed a miracle you woke up, judging by the amount of blood you lost." The doctor beside my mother stated. "It was very lucky that you were found and brought here." My eyes widened.
"Do you know who brought me in?" I blurted out, lifting my head slightly in anticipation.
"No, unfortunately he did not leave his name. He departed the minute you were taken into our care."
I sighed. So much for that. "I see."
The weight of my mother then was lifted off me. "Sweetheart, I'm deeply sorry but I have to go, I have work." It felt like something sank in my chest. "I promise I'll be back after work to check in." She gently squeezed my hand, then headed to the door. Giving me a small sad smile.
Did she know about what happened? How I ended up here.
Why was I inflicted with this life?
"Ms. Hunter, are you alright?" The same doctor asked.
I could feel my bottom lip tremble. "Oh. Um. Yes. Can I be left alone now?"
"Certainly. Just press the button next to you if you require assistance." The doctor directed all the others out of the room, leaving me to the silence that enveloped the room. I stared at the pure white ceiling, and Mother was all I could think about.
I didn't realize it but tears flowed down my face and I felt a deep pain in my chest. The pain I felt wasn't from my wounds, it was from my heart.
Why would Mother love a girl like me?
I'm an awkward outcast, that apparently gets chased by psychopaths. Not an ideal child for anyone
Did she even love me?
Okay now I was being delirious. Of course, Mother loved me, what other reason would she come to the hospital for then? It was to see me. Mother was the only one that showed any affection to me.
Wiping the tears away, the door, that was across from me, slowly opened. Revealing a man dressed in all black from head to toe. All I could see was his pale skin, mouth and nose, but his eyes were shaded by his charcoal hair.
"Well seems like you are doing well, darling." That voice. It was the same voice from that night.
"Y-you. . ." Stuttering I pointed at him.
"Glad to see me?" His facade of a smile, slightly eerie yet memorizing.
"You. . . Who are you?" I forced the words out of my throat.
He playfully sighed, slightly making me cringe. "Now dear, didn't I say that you would find out in due time?"
