"I came home, I wasn't feeling well" I said, averting my eyes, and trying to bury my face in my homework so he didn't see my face turning red.

"ok," he said turning to leave "if you're not feeling well when Theresa gets home, I'll help her with dinner if you set the table" I raised my eyebrow in Tye's direction knowing that he would never switch chores unless there was something in it for him. He caught my look and laughed. "It's too pay you back for not ratting on me when I almost drowned you". He shot me a wink, and left. I shook my head at him, and looked at my phone. It's notification light blinking, letting me know that all the conversations I had avoided having, I how had to deal with.

The first one was from Kiera, as expected. “What the hell happened?!” , her text message all but shouting at me through the phone. I didn’t want to deal with it. I know that I was being immature, but I had never done anything like that. It was my first time meeting Kiera’s friends and I had made a complete fool of myself.  I knew I had to say something.

“I’m sorry, I have no idea what came over me. What’s worse is he tried to apologize to me”

“I know. He came back in the lunch room to grab his stuff, and he looked upset. He said you wouldn’t let him say sorry.”

“What is there for him to be sorry about? I think I’m going to go study in the library tomorrow during lunch. I’ll ttyl kay?”  I didn’t bother to wait for a reply, and I threw my phone on my bed and headed downstairs. I checked the menu board on the pantry door to see if there was anything that I could start to help Theresa out with before she got home.

“Roasted chicken and potatoes sounds easy enough” I said to myself. I started gathering the stuff that we would need, and placing it all on the island. I had seasoned the chicken, put it in the oven, and was starting in on cleaning and slicing the potatoes when I heard the jingle of keys.

“Hi Mom.”  I called out. The click of heals announced Theresa’s approach to the kichen.

“Hi honey, “ she said, kissing me on the forehead on her way to go look into the oven, I had seen her sniff when she walked into the kitchen. “You started dinner already?”

“Yeah,” I said casually, “I figured that If I started on it, you would have the time to make something really good for dessert”

“ I think that’s a good Idea” she said, walking towards the pantry “How do cookies sound?” I grinned at her knowing that her cookies were my weakness

            “They sound great mom.”

“Good.” She said, nodding her head in finalization. “I picked up stuff to make hot chocolate, because after dinner we are going to sit down and talk about what happened today”  My eyes widened, and sputtered, trying to form some sort of excuse for why I couldn’t, but Theresa held her hand up, cutting me off. “I know you. Your homework is done, You’ve already gone for a run, your season is over, so you don’t have any ‘emergency practice’ to run off to.”

I shut my mouth, knowing that she was right and that I would have to talk about it. Cookies come with a price. While I finished up the potatoes and put them in the oven, Theresa mixed the cookie dough, and put the bowl in the fridge to chill for later.

I set the table, thinking about what I was going to say to Theresa later. I wanted to tell her what happened, but I didn't want her to think that Kiera was a bad inflience on me, or make me stop hanging out with her. I let Theresa know I was done, and to call me down for dinner when it was ready.

When I got back Upstairs to my room, I saw the notification light on my phone flashing. I picked it up, expecting it to be kiera. When I saw who I was I froze.

"I hope you don't mind. I asked Kiera for your number. I just really wanted you to know I am sorry -- Aaron"
