The shrill sound of my mums voice reached my room waking me out of my dream. The old routine with the same old people. I rolled out of bed and woke myself up as i hit the floor. Dragging my feet along the ground I slowly reached the bathroom. Blinded by the sun reflecting off the glass I turned around shielding my eyes. The window was open and the fresh air wafted through.
When I eventually got used to the light I turned around and looked myself in the mirror. My hair looked like a birds nest, my eyes held their daring sparkle and my freckles little dusted my checks and nose. Combing the mess of my hair down I sighed.
Today was going to be the same old, boring day.
I stripped down and the cold breeze stung my back. Changing into my casual attire I hummed a short but sweet tune. I slipped into a white singlet tucked into a rainbow patterned skirt, with a faded denim jacket to compliment the look. Slipping on my mint green high top converses I walked out of my room.
Making my way over to my chest of draws I pulled out the small gold handled dagger and slipped it into my jacket.
The world had changed since the year 2017. People were being hunted and killed but no one knew what was killing us off. You might ask how we know that we are being killed off and not people just going missing well, bodies would turn up on the families doorstep. The human race was getting smaller and smaller by the day.
I slipped another gold dagger into my converses and walked out of my room. I grabbed my Paris satchel. It was faded and reminded me of the times when people could actually travel without fearing for their lives. I wasn't a common human girl, nope I wasn't close.
I'm a princess living in a world full of her people relying on her to save them. A princess who is only 18 and has already got the weight of the world on her shoulders.
I reached the stairs and hopped onto the railing. Smiling with a hint of mischief I slid down the banister like a child. When I reached the bottom I jumped off and landed with both feet planted on the ground. I looked around the foyer to see the old clock chime as it turned 8.00. I was late.
I ran into the kitchen and grabbed my phone off the charger and a piece off toast my mum just cooked. I smiled in appreciation and she smiled back.
"Bye sweetie, make sure you've got your protection." She said to me.
I know that you don't expect a queen to say that, but like I said the world has changed.
Stuffing my mouth the with the piece of toast a muffled goodbye and don't worry escaped my mouth in a jumble of words. I ran out of the house and into the garage where my baby waited. It's smooth back paint glistened in the sun that slipped through the gaps in the door. I slipped on my helmet and swallowed the last bit of toast. Swinging my leg over the seat the garage door opened for me. I placed the key in ignition and my baby purred. I kicked off the stand and sped off out of the palace grounds towards school.
The houses went past in a blur like a movie in fast forward. I started to sing a tune turning it into my favourite song Little Talks By Of Monsters and Men.
"I don't like walking around this old and empty house
So hold my hand, I'll walk with you my dear"
A girl walks to school with her little brother holding her hand hoping one day fear will be left in the shadows.
"The stairs creak as I sleep,
It's keeping me awake
It's the house telling you to close your eyes"
A lady walked down the street clutching her child to her chest not wanting to let go of something so precious to her.
"And some days I can't even trust myself
It's killing me to see you this way"
A mother cries as she watches her son walk to school.
"Cause though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore
Hey! Hey! Hey!
There's an old voice in my head
That's holding me back
Well tell her that I miss our little talks"
A group of children huddle together in hope that they too can stay safe.
A tear threatened to escape my eye. There was nothing I can do. I wasn't strong enough to bring them hope.
I pulled up into the school's parking lot and took off my helmet. I tucked my helmet under my arm and walked past the flagpole surrounded by flowers and crosses. A fresh new lot of flowers had been placed down so I'm guessing that's another student killed. As a princess I had to pay my respects so I reached into my satchel and pulled out a card. I didn't bother to read the name of the dead student just placed down the card. These killings had been happening so often I even carried a stack of pre-made cards around. Sighing I placed down a card and smiled slightly at the people standing around the pole.
I walked into the corridors and towards my locker. I waited for my friend Liz here and she would normally be there already. When I arrived she wasn't there.
She must be late I thought.
The repetitive sound of the bell rang through out the corridors reaching into every corner. I hurried towards my first class, music. When I reached the classroom. Everyone went quiet and bowed their heads in my direction.
"Guys how many times do I have to tell you please don't bow to me. I'm just a princess and bowing makes me feel old." I said sympathetically to them.
"You don't know do you?" Said a girl in the corner. I recognized her as Rose. She wore her hair in a braid down her back and a baby blue dress with a high neck collar.
"What do you mean I don't know?" I was confused.
"Just calm down and sit down." She soothed.
I was getting confused and I was thinking up the worst case scenario.
"As your princess I demand you to tell me what's going on." I stated firmly and sat down.
"Anastasia...." She said soothingly. Whispering the last part she said.
"Liz is dead..."
