The wind was harsh and brutal on that winters day, the sun was starting to peak over the horizon. The Moon was slowly setting as I heard it. The last howl of the full moon, it was a bad omen known through my village as the calling. Each month one to two people were called towards the wolves. Last month it was my oldest brother, Garroth Ro'meave, the strongest warrior in our village, and the leader of our household. Our father was away at war, fighting off the invaders who threatened to take our land. In my family I was the youngest, I had 3 older brothers, Garroth had disappeared during the last calling. Vlad had run away over 3 years ago, and the youngest brother Zane, was married to the Mayor's daughter Eva Sinclair. All that was left to my family was my mother, she worked hard to feed all of her children and any that needed food or help.
With the Calling hanging above our heads, I would confide in my two best friends. We had been best friends since we were young children. Anything we did, we did it together. We were inseparable. The three of us were known throughout the village as the pack. James was the youngest of us all, but he was enthusiastic beyond believe, he was our happiness and he inspired us to do things we would normally pass up. Yung was the oldest of our pack. He was a born leader, he had all the information and helped us guide our way through life. After Garroth was lost, Yung stepped up and supported my mother and I. He was our rock to reality. Then there was me. A girl, running around with two boys. It gave me a bad reputation which nearly broke my mother's heart, but she knew they were my life, we were the pack, we were who we were meant to be.
The morning of the calling, the boys and I were helping my mother with the farm. Feeding Chickens, making bread, and other tedious tasks. The Calling sent shivers down my spine, it was like I knew they were calling me, like it was my family calling me home. I missed my brothers so much.
The night after the Calling, I started to feel different, like I was changing. That night I woke from horrific night terrors. Luckily the boys had decided to stay over. We normally stick together after The Calling. I told them about the horrific things that happened in my dreams, about how I was running through the field and my body twisted and transformed into a wolf. They looked at me, the shock was obvious by the lack of colour in their faces. They looked at each other, with petrified faces, and told me they had seen the same sort of things in their dreams. I felt sick to my stomach, thinking maybe we had eaten some sort of hallucinogenic substance. I needed to clear my head, so during the darkest period of the night, we ran. Through the thick dark forest which opened out into a clearing covered in wild flowers. I flopped onto the cold dewy grass.
That was when I saw him. His eyes were peering at me through the thicket. I wacked James with my hand, He and Yung sat up straight. With disbelief I closed my eyes tight to shake the image from my mind. James clasped our cold hands together, we were all shaking in terror as a wolf stepped into the clearing. It snarled at us with its sharp teeth glistening in the moon light. Something about this wolf seem familiar. The wolfs eyes began to change to a mellow blue colour. I no longer felt any fear. I let go of James and Yung, as i slowly waltzed towards the wolf. In an Instant he changed. He was no longer a wolf. He was my eldest Brother Garroth.
