Delilah

The beginning of a new life

I find myself kneeling in a boat, drifting on a lake under a cloudless night sky. Not a single ripple in the water. A distant fluttering of wings gently cradles my ears. A white light floods my vision and I am paralyzed, but find comfort in the lack of motion. A warmth surges inside of me, despite the chill in the air. From behind, though I can not see her I feel her breath slip from her parted lips as she smiles at me. She reaches for me as for I can feel the warmth approach my ever so still body. Just as her fingertips grace the bare skin of my shoulder, a sigh escapes my now open mouth.

"Delilah" a voice as soft as velvet breaths in my ear

"Delilah" This time it's more urgent

"Delilah!"

I shoot up in straight in my bed. My stepsister is sound asleep in the bed opposite my side of the room. My head darts to the still blurry figure sitting at the foot of my bed. The figure speaks in a hushed voice.

"Delilah, you aren't safe here anymore"

The figure moves into the light and a handsome boy -no he's more of a man- is revealed. He reaches for my hand and by instincted I flinch away. He sighs.

"Don't be afraid Delilah, I'm here to protect you."

What is he talking about?

"I'm talking about your stepmother, she is planning on murdering you and your sister in 2 days time. I was sent to collect you and relocate you to a better place."

Janice wouldn't do that to us... She loves us...

"She did but she found out so things that have driven her to insanity"

I have so many questions... Was he reading my mind? And how does he know all this things... Where's he taking me? How does he know my name?

He chuckles lightly

"You're talking out loud Delilah and I know these things because I am your guardian angel. I can't tell you where I am taking you just yet but you'll know soon enough."

I hesitate before answering,

"Okay, but can I know your name?"

He smiles kindly at me,

"My name is Laurence but you can call me Lo"
