The Celts believed that women were the only possible gender of the human race who could ever be classed as a witch. My coven and I have come to believe that this rumour had been spread as birth is seen as such a magical thing. While I can confirm that it is true that some of our traditions involve only female witches, there are also traditions that only involve a male witch as well. In my coven we do not refer to male witches as a 'warlock' or 'wizard'. In fact, these words are only ever spoken by our elders as the word 'warlock' translates to 'oath breaker'.

While there are some covens that do like to differentiate the two genders between their own personal societies. My coven rarely bothers to use them. Traditionally, the word wicce would define a female witch and wicca defines a male witch. According to the elders in the old days, way before I was even born, magic was considered to be as common as breathing. People like myself were accepted into the community outside of the shadow of our woods. No one would question our beliefs. In fact, the Celts of that time had been extremely spiritual people and with no god of their own to follow they began to follow our traditions asking us to pray for them and bring good fortune on their lands.

Then one day a group of Christian leaders travelled to the village. The Christians looked down on our magical traditions and festivals. Calling each of us sinners, claiming we were the spawn of some fallen angel. It wasn't long until the Celts believed the poisoned words of the foreign intruders. the Christians turned our own families against us and we were forced to move away from our lands. However, some of the witches stayed behind pledging an eternal oath to my coven and the Celts that they would never use their magic again living the rest of their lives like the Celts around them.

The elders were sad to leave them behind. The younger ranks were considered their children. Unfortunately, they had no choice to dwell on the right decision as they led the rest of the coven away into the forest setting up camp in a clearing. The coven has lived here now for 9,896 moons.
