Inspired by The Metamorphosis, Franz Kafka:
Locked away in darkness,
pushing back vague hopes of human exchange.
Cut off, hidden, reminded of the freedom
he once found
but now silently forced to abandon.
Himself alone struggling to forget
Happy times replaced now with suffocating layers of neglect and want.
Excuses overheard, eavesdropping to end the barren wasteland
that is his captivity.
On his own, unsure of the burden
Lying low to cease the caution and discomfort,
accustomed to the darkness bothering him.
Hindered and disappearing behind the bolted door, the locked quiet life.
Paying no mind, jumping back to confinement
Watching, suffering, returning to hopelessness.
Locked away in darkness,
no one sacrificing the key.
The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka ch. II-III
