The moon shone brightly above Little Creek's forehead. It was a calm night, the stars were out, branches rustling smoothly in the breeze, and owls hooting to their hearts content. Little Creek was out on a stroll with her father, even though she was only three years old, she had the curiosity of a 14 year old. Hand in hand, Little Creek wandered the forest with her father. He stopped.
"Little Creek, I must be returning to the village before I'm missed. I have night guard duty. That means you must come back with me."
"Do we have to?" Little Creek asked. Her father responded,
"Yes, it is getting late. Do you see the grinning bobcat? That is a sign that soon wolves will be out on the prowl. Come on my little creek. We must really be returning home." Little Creek only nodded her head. Then she halted.
"Father? Did you hear something?"
"No I certainly did not! Why ever would you think that?" he asked questioningly.
"I feel like something is watching us. Like a...a...AHHHHH!" She screamed. She pointed to a space in between two trees. Six glowing eyes appeared in turn.
"RUN! Run Little Creek! Go home and stay there until I come back!" Her father yelled.
"But what about you!"
"It doesn't matter. Just GO!!" She scrambled and tried to take off but her moccasins were stuck on a branch. The wolves, seeing a moving prey, followed her.
"HELP! Father help!" He raced over but got stopped by one of the wolves. Suddenly, a snow white wolf grabbed hold on Little Creek by the arm. So surprisingly gentle was her motion that Little Creek stopped trying to get away. Then, another wolf, this time black and grey put Little Creek onto his back. Then, all three of the wolves, ran away. Carrying their newest luggage...Little Creek.
"LITTLE CREEEEEEEEK-" Her father's cries could be heard for many a mile. He went back to the village to tell them about what happened. Shouting at them to search with all their might. And they searched savagely. Tearing down branches and shrubs. But to no prevail. Little Creek's father, Night Falcon, sat down and cried.
"NOOOOOOOOOO-" he cursed the moon and all of its stars. He cursed the wolves, he cursed himself. Cursed himself for letting the wolves take Little Creek away, cursed himself for not bringing her back home quick enough, cursed himself for listening to Little Creek when she said she wanted to go outside the village. Then, he layed himself down on the forest floor and cried himself to sleep.
