All of the Above

prologue

And our days went on in numbing routine. We went our separate ways each day—you to work and I to school—only to reconvene late at night over rushed dinners and small talk. And yet, content as we were, we began to drift apart but instead of returning to each other, we were running marathons in the opposite directions. And in the time we spent apart, we grew old and grew apart, like the moon infinitely chasing after the sun, forever separated by twelve hours and a world that long since stopped caring.

But here's the peculiar thing about infinity. It looks like two orbits colliding, almost a bit like so:

◯ ◯ → ◯ ◯ → ◯◯ → ∞

And perhaps in its design lies a flaw. Perhaps...in this infinity of defining quantities that we tirelessly revolve around, the infinity holds within itself an end, or possibly even a beginning. It holds, at an infinitely small point in time, a meeting point between the two orbits, where one can leap over into the next or where the two can settle down their restless heartstrings and tie their loose ends to one another.

But until we meet again, I suppose we'll just have to keep on circling about our own galaxies, strung along by nothing more than constellations of hope and a space full of dreams...

Until we meet again...Possibly the most bittersweet phrase in the English dictionary, invented for those who feared that a parting goodbye would be their very last.

So maybe the universe is trying to tell us something, that perhaps the moon is supposed to forever chase after the waning light of the sun. That these two glittering orbs were never meant to be together.

But, that doesn't mean that we can't try. For even the universe itself knows that the rare possibility exists. Because someday, one day, in that abysmal expanse of space, one shall eclipse the other and for that brief moment in time, the sun, the moon, and the earth shall all be aligned and all the world will marvel at how undeniably beautiful it is.

Just like you.
