Sherlock hated Mary.
He hated her for a lot of reasons. He hated how popular she was, because she wasn't even that pretty and she always wore those stupid white nursing shoes even though she wasn't a nurse. He hated how she didn't have any problems because her parents were comfortably wealthy and they loved each other and her and she always got good grades and no one made fun of her for it. But those weren't the real problem. Those were just little things that added onto the fact that he hated her.
The real reason why Sherlock hated Mary to the very pit of his stomach was because John Watson was completely in love with her.
That shouldn't be a problem, though. John was Sherlock's best friend; he had been since the middle of primary school when they'd been placed in the same class with Mr. Stamford. John had liked Mary for a long time, but not as long as he'd known Sherlock. Then Mary started to like John. Sherlock thought that that was unfair at the time since he liked John first. Over time, he realised that that wasn't how things worked. He also found out that it wasn't normal for boys to like other boys, but he had liked John for such a long time that he didn't really think about it too much. When John and Mary started dating halfway through secondary school, Sherlock was completely heartbroken, although he wasn't sure what the feeling was for years.
John never stopped hanging out with Sherlock, but now Mary had widened the group from a duo to a trio. It would have been less of a problem if the trio hadn't opened into a duodecet. Mary had brought not only herself into John and Sherlock's lives, but she'd also broughten her popularity.
That was another thing Sherlock hated.
Mary's friends were nice at first, but once they actually got to know Sherlock, they were as cruel as all the other teenagers. The real trouble were Philip and Sally. They were always picking on him or pushing him around. They'd learned to do it when John wasn't around. Others like Greg and Molly weren't so bad at all, and the rest were hard for Sherlock to read.
Once, Philip had thrown Sherlock in a trash can. It was the worst feeling in the world. John found him crying in the bathroom. Sherlock had never been so ashamed of himself in front of John, he wanted to scream. After reluctantly telling John what had happened, John had made it clear not to touch Sherlock ever again. Philip had a broken nose to remind him of that. Still, some of the group members continued to push him around. It was never very serious after that, though.

Sherlock woke one morning like any other morning. His alarm clock didn't need to wake him up because his brain did that for him; he'd trained himself just weeks to be able to do so. He went through his usual schedule to get ready: eat breakfast (Mrs. Hudson wouldn't let him leave the house without it), brush his teeth and shower, get dressed, and go.
His mother dropped him off in front of the school where she always did, and Sherlock immediately went into the school to find John. As usual, Mary and the rest of the group were with the dirty blonde boy. Sherlock walked towards them reluctantly; the only reason why he did anything at school these days was because of John, especially walk to the people who obviously found him weird. John thought it was good for Sherlock to be around them, but Sherlock found that optimism to be quite incorrect. He didn't like the group and the group didn't like him.
"Good morning," Sherlock mumbled as he came up behind John, making a place for himself between John and Mary. He absolutely loved doing that because Mary looked annoyed by Sherlock's obliviousness, while John just looked happy to see his best friend.
Everyone around them made silent groans except for John, Molly Hooper, Greg Lestrade(mostly), Irene Adler, Jim Moriarty, and Sebastian Moran. Molly was a nice girl. She found Sherlock's intelligence to be something to admire, not dread, so she enjoyed his company. Greg was also a nice guy, but he could only tolerate Sherlock for so long. He considered himself and Sherlock to be friends, but sometimes he would have to remind Sherlock to not piss him off. Irene obviously had some sort of adoration for Sherlock that he didn't understand, but as long as she didn't bother him he wouldn't find a reason to insult her character. As for Jim and Sebastian (or Seb to most), they were still a mystery to Sherlock. They were inseparable, and always seemed like they were planning to do something, although they never did anything. They showed interest in Sherlock and had even been kind to him. When Sally was throwing her irrelevant commentary towards an unamused Sherlock, Jim had told Sally to bugger off before she got what was coming for her.
