August

I took a deep breathe as I stepped out of the elevator. It has been quite a while since I've seen my friends. I haven't acknowledge that I had any for weeks. It was good for me to be distant to the world even for an ample amount of time.

But then, the time has come for me to be involved in the world once again. I promised that I'd be present today, and I just couldn't disappoint. Here I am, about to step in the function room of the hotel and about to socialize with the people I see as my peers.

I could already hear the kids running around and giggling, a smile crept up to my face. I kept my head down as I shyly walked in and the second I did, Agatha already had her attention on me as she strides toward me.

"Hi Agatha," I gave her a shy smile as I looked up to meet her gaze. She was a tad bit taller than I was. All my friends were, actually.

"Look who we have here, August Clark, you made it!" She squealed.

"I told you I would come through, didn't I?" I said with a grin that matched the wide smile that her lips had formed. She hastily took my arms in her hands in a soft yet firm matter.

"Still, it seems like you've flown to another world and decided to cut us off just like that," She mumbled, and it did seem like that. She clung our arms together as we walk through the hall. I smiled and nodded at the people I knew as we pass by.

"I'm sorry, Ags, I just really dread being involved in so much," I softly whispered.

"I know that very well, Clark. We missed you anyway," She glanced back at me and nodded at the table before us. I pulled the chair for her before I proceeded on sitting beside her.

"Who is 'we' exactly?" I chuckled.

"You'll know soon enough," She beamed.

"Why does this actually worry me?" I said teasingly, yet the words ring true.

"I've invited some other people I thought you'd appreciate to see," Mischief
sparked in her hazel eyes as curiosity filled mine. She gave me a look, her eyes telling me to take a guess.

"I was never a fan of people, and appreciating their presence isn't for me," I said bluntly.

"Oh come on! You know you love my presence, I bet you'd love theirs!" She enthusiastically said.

"Ags, who could they possibly be?" I said in an exasperated voice. As much as I do love Agatha, I wasn't up for the game she was playing at.

"Fine. I invited Acacia. Maybe Geraldine too," Her revelation had me massaging my temples unconciously.

The people that held their place in my heart. I loved Acacia. I liked Geraldine. The timeline of my affection towards them slightly overlapped as I found comfort and assurance in liking someone new. it didn't work as much as I thought it would. Still, confronting them at the same time had my stomach twist in knots.

"Why on earth would you do that, Agatha? You weren't even that close," The stress seeping through my tone.

"Hey! Be happy I actually made friends with them while you were in your hiatus. I didn't see it coming though, I disliked both of them for you," She laughed softly. Her light demeanor had me look back at her. At this sight, I knew couldn't bring myself to be irrated with her.

Agatha was the friend that I almost had a relationship with. We started off the other way around, our feelings ahead and our friendship stood back. It didn't work enough for us to actually make our relationship authentic, it was better that we settled with our friendship. We were both glad that we were able to maintain it between us. Since then, I had a soft spot for her.  It would probably be best though if I didn't tell her this.
