Rook Orphanage is an old building. Old and rickety. Many of the walls have a few pieces missing with a poor brickwork and falling apart paint job. Just outside the building is a one other building, a small abandoned church with a run down playground. The church has nothing special too it, it just sits there gathering dust and debris from years of neglect. Many of the children would play on the playground if it wasn't raining. Today was one of those clear beautiful days and all the children was playing on the old rusted equipment, while the headmaster, Ms. Sara, was sitting on the closest bench on the playground, watching all the children have fun.
"Ms. Sana can you take me to the restroom" one of the younger kids, Lenny, asked her. His name is actually Larry, everyone calls him Lenny because he cannot pronounce his R's very well yet.
"Sure thing Larry. Please, right this way" Sara had an old gently and sweet voice, however it was a little raspy. As they walked, Sara struggled to keep up with him. She was not as young as she used to be.
"Hurry Ms. Sana!" Larry yelled as he was running ahead of her.
"I am coming Larry, these old bones are not what they used to be" She says wobbling, trying to keep up with the energy of the child. The cane making a distinct plunk noise every other step. on the playground, three other children were sitting together in a triangle. A deck of cards between them. "Now Dana," The boy in front of the young girl, "is that last card in your hand happen to be a 4?" "ugh yes" Dana says with defeated tone. She groans giving him the last card in her hand. "haha i win" using a very triumphant tone. "Jay don't gloat" the other boy commands. "Oh don't be like that Tristan" Jay states giggling. Tristan interrupting Jay's victory mood "Well i have more pairs, so i win the game." Jays face instantly changes to one of victory to one of disbelief, "Wait, let me count." He points to each pair of cards on the ground near Tristan, carefully counting each one. "..three, four, five, six!?" He says loud and dumbfounded that he lost a game of Go Fish. "How did you bet six pairs?! You must be cheating!" Jay exclaims, denying the probability he could lose. "I would never cheat" Tristan boasts. Dana giggling at him. Tristan lets out a loud hmph. "Jay just accept that you lost" Tristan says, completely done with him. "I will never accept a loss from you!" he exclaimed pointing his finger at him while Tristan just giggled, turning into laughter. Jay could not keep his expression, he slapped his face and joined in the laughter. In their fun and laughing Larry comes rushing back jumping on to Dana "Ninny!" he exclaimed hugging her tightly. "ah!" Dana yelled "im being attacked!" giggling wildly and holding him to her. Dana stands up with little Larry on her back smiling. she starts running around the playground with Larry while Ms. Sara slowly comes back, taking a step and moving her cane along with. She sits down on the bench to take a breath then yells out "kids! 5 more minutes and we will head back to orphanage!" They all stop to hear her and they all give an indication of acknowledgement. Dana pretends to be an airplane running around while Larry laughs and holds onto her back. Jay and Tristan go back to playing card games, Jay more determined this last game of cards. Five minutes pass and Jay exclaimed, "yes finally! i win! hahah!" He rockets up exclaiming to the sky yes i won! before Tristan said under his breath "i let you win hehe" he giggled. "hm? whats so funny, oh yea you lost haha!" "yea yea i lost" Tristan standing up smiling at him. Ms. Sara stands up with a groan holding onto her cane "alright kids come on. Its time to head back to the house." All the kids groaned as Dana came back with Larry, setting him down. "Ms. Sana can we stay!" he looked up at Ms. Sara with his big green eyes. She looked down smiling at him gently placing a hand on his head "im sorry darlin, but this old body of mine cant take it out here as much it used to. Now come on yall, lets head back" she slowly heads to the gate of the playground opening up as the kids run across the street with Ms. Sara not far behind. When all the kids get across the street a large rusted looking truck pulls up stopping in between the kids who stare at the truck confused, and Ms. Sara who was still trying to cross the road. The driver side door opens.
