CHAPTER ONE THE BEGINNING

EVERYTHING IS BROKEN.
It's only been a few hours since Seth and Ava rode off into the Mexican sunrise together. They stop at a motel and get a room with whatever money Seth has left. He rents the room for four nights.
Upon entering their room, Ava finds only one queen sized bed in the middle and she quickly claims it as her's.
Seth spends the night in the chair by the window, and Ava doesn't protest. She sleeps in most of the morning and wakes to find Seth coming in with food, drinks and a large brown paper bag.
He walks past her without saying anything, and sets everything down on the small table in the corner of the room.
The smell of fried food stirs her out of her daze, and Ava sits up, running a hand through her tangled hair.
She needs a shower. And another after that.
"I'm starving.." She mumbles.
She gets out of bed and toes off her converse before joining Seth at the table. She sits and he hands her a burger, setting down one of the drinks in front of her.
Hastily, she unwraps it and eats.
Seth is slow to eat, mostly sipping on his fizzy soda, carefully watching Ava.
She fell asleep in her tattered jeans, socks still soaked in blood, hair caked in it, too.
His eyes dart along the nape of her neck, catches himself staring at the bandage that covers the marks his brother left.
The guilt of taking her sinks in. Seth hadn't wanted her to get hurt. Yes, he took her but he didn't want to ruin her.
"What's in the bag?" Ava asks between bites.
It doesn't take too many bites before the burger is gone and she's onto her fries.
"Oh, umm - I got you a change of clothes." He explains. "I wasn't exactly sure what to get you, so if you want, I can take you into town and we can get anything else you need."
She smiles for a brief second and nods.
"Thank you."

AFTER SHOWERING Ava changes into the clothes Seth bought her ; an oversized grey tee and shorts that are incredibly soft on her skin. She wears them without underwear and makes a mental note to buy some.
