Odile, daughter of the evil magician Von Rothbart who she took her orders from everyday of her life would never live a normal life in the village her father had made sure of that, he had set an eternal curse on her:

At moonlights dusk your legs will fail,

and you'll become of faerie tale,

with webbed feet

and honking cries,

the others will not recognize,

with feathers sleek and grace mystique

let girl be gone into a swan

And that was the crisis of Odile's life that every night at dusk she would be forced to roam round the solemn lake outside of her fathers castle wasting the life that was hers.

                                                                        ...

Laughter and music filled the small tavern "Oh! Susanne did you hear, in ten months time Prince Siegfred is inviting every girl with her father to his birthday ball he's a' look'n for a young girl to wed!," giggled a girl named Mary.

Susanne sang with delight "I am gonna be a princess!, I am gonna be a princess!,"

"No, everyone knows he'll be courting Odette,"  Mary said staring rather sourly at a beautiful girl who was dancing and laughing merrily with her friends, she was simply ethereal with her long golden hair that fell around her shoulders, eyes the color of shining jade, pale, slightly rosy, skin and when she laughed it was the sound of an instrument that its owner had perfected playing, she laughed very often for she was the kindest, truest, happiest girl in the village.

Suddenly the door of the tavern crashed open and the candles blew out leaving the small room dim. A tall, dark cloaked figure stood in the door and wind from the cold, winter night air drifted in chilling bones there was silence the figure (who was a man) raised his hand the only sound from the howling wind and he said the eternal curse and suddenly Odette, her four friends, Mary and Susanne vanished and in their places, seven Trumpeter swans honking frantically as shrieks came from the villagers the cloaked man vanished along with the seven girls, now swans.

                                                                    ...

Odile woke at five before midday to the sounds of young girls shrieking in surprise she opened her eyes she was back to human form as always at this time she slept in a large nest to fit her human and swan form she rose and put on a becoming black lacy dress jinxed to never get wet in water like all her clothes and saw seven girls splashing in the lake.

She glared at them "Who are you!," she snapped they all froze in astonishment at her except one "I'm Odette please forgive us, is this your lake? We were turned into swans so we slept on the lake, for we do not know where swans sleep when we woke up in water as humans again," said Odette in her sweet voice. Odile's annoyed expression softened for these girls suffered the same fate as she "I am Odile, the curse just lasts at night and you all should sleep in nests, I do," they all gaped at her, the strange thing was as the two girls stood beside each other the other girls and them noticed they looked as if sisters their likeness was so strong the same jade eyes, dark blonde hair slightly reddish, they could definitely be related. "Can't we just leave?" asked Susanne her blonde bun dripping wet Odile looked at her amused "Try," she replied so Susanne tried to walk through two trees leading to more forest but screamed when she turned to a white swan once more "Unless you have permission from my father no one can leave without spending the rest of the day and night as a swan," They all looked pityingly at the swan honking loudly below them suddenly a bell rung Odile cursed under her breath "Father calls," and ran to the castle.

                                                                 ...

"Ah there you are I need you to get some ragroot from Agatha in the village," Von Rothbart said his gaze piercing into Odile she nodded without a word and ran out. Agatha was an old wise woman who lived in a hut around the corner from the castle where she grew herbs and plants. Odile walked along the dirt road with a basket to put the ragroot in she looked down so as not to be noticed by villagers "Stupid Agatha,"  she muttered "I just wish fathe-" she had crashed into someone and abruptly fell her basket rolling away from her as she was helped up by a young boy he had short brown hair, pale skin and stunning blue eyes she blushed what was this weird fluttery feeling? "Are you okay?," the boy said "Um- yeah, I mean yes, yes I'm okay," he grinned at her and her heart jumped really what was wrong with her? "Where are you going?" he said "The hut-I mean Agatha's I mean-" she flushed deep red "The wise woman?",  "Yes," "Jump on," he said as pulled her up onto his regal, palimino stallion. He was wearing a fancy riding outfit obviously rich. She held his waist rather embarrassed as they rode along. He dropped her off at the small hut and she thanked him.

                                                                  ...

When she brought her father the root he stared at her smiling "Are the prisoners finding the lake comfortable?" he laughed "There was quite a ruckus this morning I heard from my room," Odile had to stop herself from screaming in frustration that she had to sleep outside as a black swan while here her father slept, with eight empty bedrooms but she bit it back "You seem angered," he said "No father," she replied through gritted teeth.

                                                                  ...

Rothbart castle...

Odile walked outside to her nest and pulled a nightgown on, it was almost dusk "Odile," she spun around to see Odette standing there her eyes were sad and a tear rolled down her cheek "Will I ever get to see my father again?," she said with a little sob Odile stood not knowing what to do for she did not know how to comfort someone but who can blame her, she never got any for herself. "I-I don't know," she stammered and unexpectedly Odette ran and hugged her as she cried, she was so confused and hurt how could this have happened to her.

They hugged for a long time it seemed and when they let go Odile made her a nest and they slept and dreamed of a better time.
