I look back at my mom as I climb out of the car. She gives me a reassuring smile, but it does nothing to calm my racing heart. I take a deep breath and turn to walk away. "Have a good day Lex," I give her a thumbs up. This is it. I think to myself as I walk up the sidewalk towards the front doors. It feels like it's taken hours to get this far. And the next thing I know I'm standing in a hallway, and then I realize this hallway is the awakening of everything. My new school, my new house, my new life.
I make my way towards the front office, which I only remembered where it was from the tour I was given when I got registered over summer break. There's not a lot of people here yet, but I know that there will be. This school was like a thousand times bigger than my old one. Finally I see the office and make my way through the glass doors. "What can I help you with?" A smiling lady with dark curls framing her face asks. She looks a little older, maybe around her late thirties.
"Erm..." Is my only response. I'm mentally slapping myself over and over again.
"Are you new here?" I nod. She smiles again, "What's your name?"
"Alex," I say in a shaky voice. I really need to work on my socializing skills. "Well, I mean..." I really want out of here it's not even the first ten minutes and I already look like a dork. I sigh "Alexei Joseph"
Another smile. She turns and begins rummaging through some files and things on her desk. "This is your schedule and temporary student ID," she says handing me a packet of paper and plastic card. "If you'd like you can go find your locker before the bell rings, your number and combination is on the top of the paper."
"Oh, um yeah, thanks," and I walk out. My locker number is 335 and I have no idea where to even start. There's a group of lockers right across from me so I head over to them. The first numbers I see are in the high two thousands. You've got to be kidding me. I begin counting down the halls until I finally make it to the six hundreds. I'm pretty sure I'm lost and I have no idea what time it is. Well this is just fantastic, I keep walking. And finally after about oh I don't know just an estimated fifteen million years I finally find my locker. I end up having to put my com in about four times and right as I'm about to give up I hear it click open.
My bag is mostly empty, so I shove my jacket inside. I grab my pen,put it in my back pocket, and then shove said bag in. Just as I slam it closed, the bell rings. Great. I'm already late. My first class is Geography. Thankfully there's a map of the entire school at the back of the packet that lady person gave me. And I guess I don't have to walk very far. I round the corner and plow straight into somebody "Shit!" Is all I have time to say before I hit the hard floor.
"Oh my god are you okay?" It's a dude's voice " I'm so sorry," I sit up slowly, holding my head. Ow. I glance up at his face and stop breathing completely. Woah. I'm definitely better now. He's dressed all in black, black converse, black skinny jeans, black shirt, black leather jacket, black beanie. I know. A lot of black. But he's making it work. He has a pale complexion, and super deep blue eyes. And fringe (black of course) that I would literally kill for. His face is perfectly chiseled and just oh my god. I blush and look away.
"I'm fine," He reaches his hand out, he has black bikers' gloves on with spikes on the knuckles. I take it and he pulls me to my feet. I wobble a little and he puts his hand on my shoulder. I really want to go home.
"Are you sure you're okay?" He keeps asking me. I look up at him again, he's a full head taller than me. I nod and look away. "I'm Andy," he reaches his hand towards me. I take it and shake it a little. What am I doing with my life?
"Alex," I say to my shoes.
"Are you new here?"
I sigh "Yeah, sadly." He hands me all my crap that I dropped. "Thanks."
"What class do you have?" He leans over my shoulder peering down at my papers that were now a crumpled mess.
"Geography I think," His pants are holy everywhere. Wow that is attractive. I can't decide where to look, anywhere but at his face. I want to crawl into the trash can that's just a little ways down the hall.
"Yep, me too." I refuse to look up at him, but I can hear the smile in his voice. I would be rich if I had a dollar for every time I've face palmed in the last thirty seconds. "Well shall we?" What? He takes my arm and begins leading me down the hall. We walk around the corner I previously just died on.
