Captain Merrienne sat in her quarters, tapping her nails on the desk and looking off into the deep, black velvet of her drapes, remembering bitterly that horrendous day long ago. Her father, Captain James Hook, had disowned her for loving one of the Lost Boys, Rufio. Then, when she had told Rufio of Hook's disowning her, he had become disgusted that his biggest enemy had fathered her. He'd told her he never wanted to see her again.
Of course, she'd begged Hook to accept her again, and he'd allowed her to become a part of his crew, but still he didn't accept her as his daughter.
Then, that awful day, she'd watched her father run Rufio through. So, she wasn't surprised when Peter Pan had used the crocodile to kill Hook. Of course, Pan was much more aged. He had a wife, Moira, and two children, Jack and Maggie, by that time.
If her father could see her now, he'd be so proud; Captain of her own ship, the Morning Mina, having her own ruthless crew and equally as ruthless reputation. Many pirates on the waters of Neverland feared her name alone. Being only 17 years of age, she'd done rather well for herself.
She remembered promising her father's crew that she'd avenge him as she followed Pan back to his home. She'd watched his pregnant wife welcome him and their children home with tears flowing from her eyes. She'd watched him kiss his wife's protruding stomach and hug his family.
She was startled out of her bitter memory by a loud pounding on her chamber door.
"What is it, Sampson?" Merrienne demanded. Sampson was her servant. He was also the nephew of her father's servant, Smee. Sampson was only twelve years older than her, a mere 29 years of age. Yet he'd been her servant for nearly five Earth years. Here in Neverland, though, neither of them looked a day over their chosen age. Merrienne had chosen to stop aging at the age of 17, while Sampson chose 29. They'd both chosen on the same day, that way Merrienne wouldn't be considered an adult and Sampson wouldn't be considered old.
Sampson poked his head in her door. "They're here, Captain."
Her lips curled up slightly at the corners in a low smile as she peered out the window. "I'll be out in a moment. Thank you, Sampson."
He nodded and shut the door quietly. She kept her smile as she got dressed, thinking to herself 'Are you happy now, James?' She swore she almost heard his familiar evil chuckle somewhere far off, echoeing off the lands.
After she got dressed, she opened her door and stepped out onto the deck of the Mourning Mina as the bright, warm morning suns shone down on her. She peered around her ship, smiling when her eyes rested on the older boy glaring up at her, along with the two girls who looked identical girls sobbing incoherently and clinging to their older brother. Peter Pan's three youngest children.
