Chris took a total of 30 or so steps before he collided with something, And hard. 'what in the world?’ Chris thought as he brought his hand to his right cheek rubbing the pain away. He opened his eyes slightly and saw a boy, around his age, rubbing the back of his head where Chris slammed into him.

“Sorry.” Chris said sheepishly holding his cheek, the rubbing motion stopping. 'is he mad?’

The light brown haired boy finally turned around with a grunt looking into Chris’ upset eyes. “It's fine.” He spoke with obvious pain in his voice.

Chris honestly didn't know what to say. So he did the next best the thing.

He removed his hand from his face and just stared. Not saying a thing.

He studied the soft features of the boy before him, from the spiky brown hair, his tired looking eyes, to his pink lips that were in a straight line. But out of everything he saw, his eyes caught his attention the most. The watery blue color made Chris' frown turn into a soft smile. “You have beautiful eyes!” Chris gushed before he could stop himself. He couldn't help it, when he had something on his mind, he spoke it.

“Uh-” the brown haired boy mumbled nervously with wide eyes as he looked away from Chris’ gaze and off somewhere in the distance. “T-thanks” he finished as a dark red color took over his pale face.

“What's your name?” Chris asked as he continued to watch the red color get darker as he looked back at Chris, his eyes still wide. 'Is he ok?’

“M-my name is Ted…. Ted Green. You?” Ted croaked out. His face felt hot and sweaty. He could only imagine how silly he looked right now.

“My name is Chris! Chris Unsound! Nice to meet you Ted.” Chris replied ecstatically. He noticed Ted’s eye size go back to normal as the sides of his mouth screeched to a very small smile, one that was barely noticeable.

It took a moment to notice but once Chris did, curiosity filled his tiny head. “So… what's in the box?” Chris asked looking at the box that he just noticed a few seconds ago. It was neatly tucked under Ted's arm.

“It's my cat, Foofy.” Ted said carefully moving the box out from his arm and into Chris' line of sight. “mom said we couldn't keep him because she turned out to be allergic to cats so I'm trying to find him a new home.” Ted finished, the small smile now completely gone.

“He's so cute!” Chris spat out quickly. Ted noticing the sparkle in the boys brown eyes.

“Can I have him?! I just love cats! They're the best! When I grow up I want to have a cat army and-”

“Sure.” Ted said cutting off the rambling boy. Shoving the box with the white cat with black ears into his arms.

“Really? I can really have him!” Chris beamed smiling, of course he'd have to ask his mom, but this was a start!

“Yeah, you seem to like cats so… why not?”

“Thank you!” Chris said giving Ted a playful punch to the arm. A little hard for Ted's liking, but he'd get over it.

Before Ted could say another word the excited boy turned on his heels, box in arms, and dashed over to his mother and brother.

“Mom!” Chris shouted when he was halfway there. But once to his destination he practically shoved the box into his mother's face. “Can we keep him! Oh please mom, I'll never ask for anything else ever again.”

She had to carefully push the box away from her face to even see what he was so excited about. A cat. A kitten to be more precise.

She was quiet for a minute. Chris could feel his heart break, she was gonna say no, wasn't she? But he kept the smile on his face, he couldn't give up the hope just yet.

“Well, Chris….” She started, looking into the eyes of her child. She watched the large smile change to frown within a matter of seconds. “Where did you even get him from dear? He might be someone's pet.”

“I got him from Ted. He can't keep him because his mom said no, so he needs a home.” Chris said looking over at Ted who was still standing where Chris left him.  His mother looked over at the Ted kid her son was talking about, he gave he a shy wave, he looked a little confused. “I guess I'll take him back now...” Chris said starting to step away from his mother.

“Now Chris.” His mother said getting his attention back to her. “Your birthday is in a few weeks, do you want him as one of your gifts?” She asked knowing the answer already. But the large smile and teary eyes he sported after her question made her giggle, her kids were to cute.

“Really mama! You mean it?”

“Yes Chris. I mean it.” She said wiping the tears of joy from his face. “Now…. What's your new cat's name dear?” She asked scooping the tiny kitten out of the small white box, setting him gently on her lap. “And we also need to set up a vet appointment to make sure everything is A-ok”

“I know mama, and his name is Foofy. Ummmm…...Mr. Foofy!” Chris said adding his little touch on his new felines name.

“EH!” The angry sounding squeal came from Aiden. He looked mad, his eyebrows furrowed together as he pointed to the cat that rested on his mother's lap.

“Someone seems jealous.” She laughed running her fingers through Aiden's soft hair. Earning a grunt from his as he dropped his arm back to his side.

“Let me go tell Ted thank you, then we can go and get Foofy home.” Chris said noticing Ted was still standing on the sidewalk.

“Sounds good, we'll need to stop by the store and get him some things.”

“Ok! Be right back!” Chris said leaving his family and ran over back to Ted.

Ted raised a eyebrow as the boy skipped the last few feet toward him. Then immediately wrapped him in a tight hug.

“Thank you again Ted. I owe you one.” Chris’ voice was quiet, as if he only wanted Ted to hear him. Right as Ted was gonna hug Chris back,  he pulled away. The largest smile plastered on his face. “I gotta go now, we gotta get him home.” He explained why the hug wasn't a long one.

“Oh….ok” Ted said slightly upset sounding.

“Would you like to come over sometime? To see Foofy or just….play?”

Ted eyes widened once again. He wasn't invited to places often, this was very new.

“Really?”

“Yeah, you gave me the best birthday gift ever! So you're more than good in my eyes.”

“Well… ok then. That sounds good to me. Maybe tomorrow or something?”

“Sure! Let's go get my mom's phone number for your parents.” Chris' demanded grabbing Ted's cold hand and practically dragging him over to his mother and a angry looking Aiden.
