"Zoey, Juno, dinner!" My sister and I run into the house to see our smiling mother. "Go wash your hands and your dad will be home soon." Zoey and I look at each other, smile and run into the bathroom to wash our hands.
"Zoey, Juno! Dad is home!" We run out of the bathroom and hug him.
"Daddy!" We say at the same time and our mother smiles at us from the kitchen
"Come and eat girls." we each grab a hand and walk him into the kitchen. Zoey and I sit down and our parents sit down. We eat, brush our teeth and sit on the couch. "Girls, I'll be right back we need milk." We snuggle each other on the couch and look up at mom.
"Okay, mommy," Zoey says.
"Love you, mommy," I say to her with a smile.
We fall asleep on the couch, but my dad wakes us up frantically. "We need to go come on." He picks us up and carries us to the car.
"Daddy, what's wrong?" He buckles us up and he looks me in my hazel eyes and I see tears forming in his eyes. I grab my sister's hand and hold it.
"Girls something happened to your mom." We look at him.
"What happened to her?" I ask. He sighs and he wipes away my sister's tears.
"While she was out she got hit by a drunk driver and she's in the hospital." He gets in the driver's seat and heads to the hospital.
Zoey and I are sitting and playing in the playroom at the hospital when a doctor came and talked to dad. "Mr. Peters, I'm sorry to say this, but your wife didn't make it." I watch my dad fall to his knees crying. I distract Zoey so she doesn't see him crying. He stands up, picks us up one at a time and takes us back home.
After that day he changed and I had to do whatever I could at the time to protect my sister. The abuse started the following week and he would drink every night, get drunk and abuse either my sister or me, but it was me more than her. I wanted to protect my sister even though I was only six. The abuse got worse over the years first it was only physical, then mental, then verbal, but the worse was the sexual not from our dad from his friends.
