KAYDEN'S POV

My life has always been a long sad one, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy the small things. As a matter of a fact I've always lived off of the small things. First kisses for example, how they always make your head spin and your heart pump out of your chest. Falling in love, how you always get those butterflies in your stomach. Getting an A on a test. A babies laugh. All of those small sweet things, they kept me going.

As a matter of a fact that is what I'm thinking about when my mother interrupts my train of thought. "Kayden! I need you to go shopping today."

I sigh and get up, "Fine. Give me a list would you?"

She glares at me and begins scolding me as she looks for her shopping list, "Don't give me that tone young man, you can be glad I haven't kicked you out ye....."

I zone out as she continues scolding me for being unsuccessful.. For getting nothing done in the 28 years of my life and for still being in college. I just look up and ignore it as always, waiting for her to find the list and hand it to me. She always does this because she thinks I'm unsuccessful just because I don't have some deadbeat boring job like what my father had.

I zone back in as she gives me the paper and continues talking, "...military. And look what that did for you. You have no family and no reasonably good job."

I roll my eyes knowing that she was hating on my enlistment in the marines again and I turn on my heels walking out of her room and out the door. "What a bitch" I say to myself as I cross the street.

I almost don't see the big red sedan speeding down the road towards me. I feel my eyes go wide and then everything goes dark as I hear screeching wheels and a screaming women on the street.
