I stood in the hallway of the hospital just looking at the door and the plastic number 6 that hung on it.
I couldn't believe that this was finally happening. After all this waiting and wondering it was finally time. It was finally time to meet my new little sister.
Taking a deep breath I slowly reached out and took the cold metal door knob in my sweaty hands.
I took a deep breath and turned the knob.
When I first opened the door all I saw was my aunt Jen, uncle Jeff, Grandma, and Grandpa, but when I was finally noticed they all moved aside to revile my Dad standing next to a bed. In that bed lay my Mom with a little bundle in her arms. My heart swelled with joy as I saw this little "bundle".
"Come here Paige." My mother whispered in a small yet audible voice.
I slowly walked forwards and peered into the little bundle that was my baby sister.
She was wide awake just staring up at me.
She had bright green eyes just like me and my mom She also had a little tuff of black hair on top of her head just like the hair on top of both mine and my dads.
All in all she was an exact replica of me... at least on the outside.
"Can I...can I hold her?" I questioned in a small voice as if I the small girl would break if I spoke to loudly.
The little girl smiled up at me.
"Of course Paige." And without the slightest hesitation she handed her over.
She was so light that I could have thrown her across the room if I had wanted to.(Which is saying something)
I looked down at her smiling face with damp eyes.
"We named her Lilly." My Dad said as they all watched me. All had watery eyes.
I smiled. Lilly. That's my middle name. Paige Lilly Smith.
I almost cried.
"Well I guess I better go back, bye Lilly." I cooed at my little sister. I then got up and walked out, quietly closing the door behind me.
I wiped my eyes on my shirt.
I slowly walked up the stairs back up to the familiar cancer ward.
I then (even slower) opened the door to room 136.
I carefully crawled into my bed, pulling the covers over me.
"Good bye Lilly, I'm glad I got to meet you." I didn't know it at the time but as I closed my eyes I was closing my eyes for the last time.
